MY10 voice dialling "system is checking the disk"

Anyone else getting this very, very irritating bug when trying to use voice dialling? I can get the first request (beep - dial by name) recognised but then it is supposed to flick to the phone book and beep again so I can speak a name. Instead I get a voice recording "System is checking the disk, please wait". I wait, and wait, and wait.....nothing - background audio comes back up in volume.
deleting and re-downloading the address book makes it go away for, oh, a couple of tries. Obviously this is not practical when in motion, and given the new VIC road laws, the bluetooth integration and voice dialling was a major selling point for me.

Hmmm... the best thing would probably be to take it back to the dealer and get them to look at it maybe? You might as well since your car's brand new. Why try and fix yourself what someone else should be fixing for you?

Yes, that would be the easy solution, however I'm still waiting for a number of "I'll get someone to call you back"s (not hopeful of this ever happening) and I don't want the inconvenience of leaving the car at a dealer, disrupting my workday etc if it's an easy fix. I was sort of hoping there would be a tech bulletin or some quick over the phone explanation - apparently not, or the dealer would have called me back, I hope.

Car went into docklands last Friday, no fix, no solution from Subaru Australia. Voice dialling does not work. No upgrade that I can see from 2008 ver1 software either (seems odd?).
It's not the phone, occurs with Blackberry and Nokia. Deleted and re-created the bluetooth pair as well.
It's not the address book data, I deleted all that and did a 'factory default' restore.
The problem occurs when only one (manually entered) name exists in the address book, fresh after a factory reset.
Does anyone out there have a MY10 liberty and is able to use voice regognition to 'dial by name'? This seems like a huge problem if it is widespread. Of course I'm the 'only one we've heard of'.....to their credit Docklands to seem to be professional about it.....but it's not working.

Bit of a bump to the thread, I'm still very keen to hear from anyone who has functional voice-dialling ('dial by name') in an MY10 Liberty with McIntosh system (GT or 3.6R).....Mine still doesn't work, the phone complies with the specs required and in all other respects works fine - just not for voice activated dialling

I have exactly the same issue. The "Dial by name" has never worked for me. It tells me that it is checking the disk and nothing happens. I dropped the car in today to Subaru and they told me this afternoon that they could not find any faults. They said my phone might not be fully compatible. I have also had issues with the system freezing (as in you can't go from the map screen to any other screen) and the front speakers not working sometimes (I think it happens sometimes when I put the car in reverse and the front speakers mute automatically and when you put the car back into drive, they don't un-mute). Anyone else have similare issues to me?

There must be some obscure phone, only available in Japan, that this DOES work on!

Looks like a fix is on the way from Japan...
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthre ... 939&page=3SOLUTION!!!!!!
OK I have taken the bull by the horns and written to the CEO of Subaru Australia Nick Senior. He was very Polite and told me he would get his technical guy onto the problem immediately (see his response below):
----------------------
Jason,
Thanks for your email. I will have our technical guys have a look at this issue and get back to you with a response.
Nick"
--------------------
I then got a response from the National Technical Manager who has said Subaru is aware of the problem, and is currently waiting on a patch from Subaru Japan that they believe will fix the problem. After testing they will roll out to dealers for implementation on customers cars (see email below)
-----------------------
Dear Jason
I am writing on behalf of Nick to advise you that we are aware of the issue as you describe with dial by name and have been working with Subaru Japan on this a matter for some time. Coincidentally this week we have received advice from them that a solution has been found and they will shortly be sending us a trial software patch.
We have not tested this remedy yet but they assure us that it does provide the solution. Once we receive the disc we will be in contact with you to arrange loading of the file.
Once the solution is confirmed we be rolling out this patch to all Subaru Dealers for uploading into customers vehicles on request.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for contacting us so that we can be of assistance.
Best Regards
Derek

I was talking to the mechanic at Subaru today and he told me that the new release of the software is now in Australia and being tested.
He also commented that of the 50 odd new MY10 Bluetooth enabled cars they have sold, only 2 drivers have tried to use the voice dialing system....

Damn straight he should, and that's only a list of people who are net savvy enough and irritated enough to post about it once they have located a forum to do it in....

Well now we're getting somewhere, because all I've heard is 'your phone must be incompatible'. Since this is the factory system on all GTs and 3.6s I find it very unlikely that only 2 customers have tried to use it - especially given the target market is likely to be middle to senior management types for whom mobile compatibility is essential as part of their job.
I've reverted to using the speed dials, like everyone else, but it still means you need to take your eyes off the road and on to the screen. And the volume being fixed once you are on a call is plain ridiculous.

I just called the Subaru service center in Newstead here in Brisbane and they didn't even acknowledge that the problem even existed let alone know anything about the fix. Hopefully Subaru Aus. will send out an email to all their dealers advising them of this fix...
