cadence vs sony budget speakers

Postby rever » Tue Dec 08, 2009 5:25 pm

Hey guys,

Was going to buy the Sony XS-GTX1620s (260w but 60w max rated power) but instad managed to get a really good deal on the Cadence ZXC-601K.
Never heard of the brand but i managed to get a massive saving from their original $300 price tag and was told they are rated at 100w max power. Just wondering if they are infact better than the sonys i mentioned and whether i should keep the cadences or go with the sonys.

Cheers,
rever

Are you going to be running them off an amp or will you be running them of the head unit???

Taking a quick look at the spec's and not having heard either of these speakers, I would suggest that the cadences would be the better speaker. The cadence's are more sensitive and have a silk dome tweeter shouldn't sound too bad. You would probably find the Sony's too "bright".

In the end though, it's up to personal preference as to how the speakers sound to you with the music you listen to.

Don't listen to the hype of "max'' power, this is meaningless, you want to look at the RMS ratings. This goes for amp's too.

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

Always "overamp". It's too low an amplifier output that kills speakers by clipping. You'll always hear a speaker over excursion - most wouldn't "hear" low level clipping.

Always give preference to a driver with a higher sensitivity. Less amp power needed for the same sound pressure level. However, ensure that the sensitivity measurement is the same at the standard 1 Khz at 1 watt at 1 meter. Some companies play with the frequency, distance or wattage when the sensitivity of the driver is very low.

Thanks for all the input.

Firstly, the speakers will be running off an amp - a 500w 4 chan sony (budget style) amp.
The speakers will also be used to for trance/techno/house type of music, so unless sonys are known to be good with this type of music i think i will just stick with the cadence ones?

As above, I dare say that sony amp wouldn't be a 500w amp, that would be it's "max" power. You want to look at the RMS figures.

+1 for cadence over any sony gear any day of the week (twice on wednesdays)
