MY07 - lack of rear speaker output

Postby mihai » Mon Dec 07, 2009 9:11 pm

Hi all,

I have a MY07 2.0R, but the sound setup would be the same as the MY07 - MY09 2.5i's.

Today, after sitting in the backseat while dad was driving, i realised that my back speakers output next to no sound!

In the front, the setup sounds pretty good for a stock setup (compared to my old car), but in the back its almost non-existent.

Just want to know if anyone else has the same lack of sound with the stock HU in the rear or if its just my car.

Also, ive played around with the balance, and it does help a bit, but ive seen that to get a noticeable sound output from the rear, the fronts tend to lose a decent amount of output, therefore the gain on the rear is not equal to the loss on the front and the sound sitting in the front and back just sounds crap.

You said you played with the balance, did you try the fader? as balance only adjusts L/R not F/R.

My rear speakers were decently loud even with the stock head unit...

Rear speakers are technically just rear fill IMO... So I wouldn't beat your self up about it :)

But if it's really really really lacking, then you may need to fiddle with some of your settings etc.

That's what I told him. And pfft - who cares about rear seat passengers. They don't get aircon, they don't get sound. Big deal.

It sounds like something could actually be wrong with his setup if he says there is next to no sound, especially if having checked fader settings. Perhaps the rear speaker channels are blown on the head unit???

I remember in Will's car on the sound deadening day he cranked the stock head unit with stock speakers, and the rear speakers were loud as anything. With mine they are pretty loud too, albit with an aftermarket HU.

EDIT: Car should still be under warranty?

I have a my08 2.5i, and I know exactly what you mean....

Im pretty sure what you have is perfectly normal for the stock setup which is why I solved the problem by:
-Step 1: Allow only myself to drive the car
-this allows the stereo to sound heaps better
-this also allows me to enjoy my car at all times, ie driving it
-i can only think of one reason why i'd need to be at the back of the car....giggity, and u dont need stereo loud for that

:)

Try Amp just the back speakers temporarily and u'll see that it's nothing wrong with the speakers or anything of that kind...

G'luckkkk

the problem lies within the HU
I presume you already have SRS set to "on"
Turn it off and on, you will notice SRS only enhances
the front two channels.
If you want even sound thru all 4 speakers
you could try wire up the rear speakers to
the front channels, but youd have to draw more power
out of the HU, which could possibly lead to overheating.
otherwise, fade it to the rear 3 or 4 notches.
