Upgrading MY05 Head Unit

Postby tha_nut » Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:48 pm

So I have a minor problem, I want to upgrade from the factory head unit to something better but i have the digital temp controlls not the manual one. Does anyone know a face plate available for this as everyone in Adelaide that i have spoken to sems to think that it doesent exist.

If any one knows a part that i could use or someone who is able to cut and remold the faceplate it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Get in contact with Phat GT (Michael)... He'll be able to source you the correct dash kit for your car :D

It definately does exist because I bought one from Japanparts.com:

It was about $420 shipped to Aus when our dollar wasn't doing too badly.

The whole digital controls panel is replaced which is why it's so expensive.

Japanparts part # is 107-209-006 (just select the correct one depending on whether you have a silver or black dash, and whether you have single or dual zone climate control)

If you aren't going to fit a double DIN head unit and need something to fill in the blank underneath, I bought the 2003/2004 WRX single DIN pocket (as showin my photo). The part # is 113-446-66123

Nice HU Tangles :).

I was looking at the Eclipse 5030 but it's a shame that it's so full of bugs. How's the software on yours?

I am still apprehensive about the black double DIN fascia... IMHO the only dash which looks good in black is the McIntosh.

I didn't think there would be too many issue with the Eclipse 5030 ???? If you want bugs, look at that Pioneer AVIC 900 series with BT, reboots and stalls
so much that it would SH*T you to tears.

I'm happy with my Eclipse AVN 4400

Not too bad. A fe wthings I'd like to change on it, I've fed it back to Eclipse and hopefully they will rectify it one day.

The dash kit varies is price, but has been known to to go for approx $300-$400.

IMO, to get the best look (As good if not better then the standard Mac HU) is to go for a double din 6.5-7 inch screen set up... Have seen it used in many members cars & they look top notch :D It's the way the car should've come :D ... After all, back in the 90's the Maxima GV came with a TV (I remember the ad :P ).

how did u manage to get your tom tom to sit where it is? i don't really wanna make a custom bracket. so i've just stuck the navman onto the actual radio faceplace for now, but, that makes changes stations a pain as well as getting in the way of 1 and 3rd gears if i don't set it up right. (yes, i've got a tomtom and navman)
