MY04 Sedan aux-in options

Hello!

(apologies if any of this sounds silly - my first post!)

I have become the proud owner of a 2003 Liberty MY04 2.5i Safety - which as you'd know is a few generations too early to have an aux-in for iPods.

This is my centre console: http://storage.mednez.net/lib/centre_console.jpg

What are my options in getting one installed? From what I've read online, it seems to be:

(a) Do it myself using an FM modulator installed behind the stereo
(b) Use an FM transmitter instead (which may have crappy quality)
(c) Get Subaru to install one

Does anyone know roughly how much it'd cost to get Subaru to do it at my next service? Or are there any other options other than what I've mentioned?

Regards,

Med

Hey Med,

I was told by the audio place that did my 07 Lib, that unless the stereo has an AUX button, you're out of luck...

I'd suggest buying a fascia kit, and install the stereo of your choice :)

+1

If you want a cheap input solution, either an FM modulator or use a tape deck adapter. But I couldn't stand the quality and bought a fascia kit. Best investment ever. Once you replace the craptastic factory head unit, the sound is literally 10 times better, even with the factory speakers

+1 since I replaced the factory head unit the front factory splits are doing an exemplary job. Since I hardly crank the stereo hard these days I have continually put off installing the splits that I took out of my old car.

Aftermarket head unit + front stock splits + a subwoofer does a great job for everyday use.

Ah! Interesting

How much did that set you both back, in the end?

From memory the double DIN fascia was around $420 shipped to australia from japanparts.

Head unit, subbie and amp are all from my old car. If you wanted something similar, I would budget:

Head unit: $500.00
Subbie: $250
Amp: $500 (4 x 60WRMS)
Splits: $400
$100 of materials to build a box, or buy a prefab one for around the same (but lesser quality than DIY).

Don't forget you'll need power and speaker cables, rca cables, fuse holder/terminals. Even going for basic generic brands the cost of these items quickly adds up to around $100 or so for a basic install like this.

Head unit: $420 CE-103EBT Alpine (Amazing value vs performance and the built in bluetooth is a must)
A/V Kit: $480 landed from japanparts (fluctuates due to exchange)
4 gauge wiring kit: $30 on sale at freeway car audio
reused my eclipse 1000W monoblock which cost about $240 2 years ago
Boston G210 10" sub: $225 (got it wholesale price)
reused old sub box: about $50 when i bought it 7 years ago!

Plus $180 to install it all from Phatt audio in Braeside. They did a wicked job and pro job. Check my thread in Audio.

I flip out at the cost of power cables! At one stage about a year ago it was $9/m or something for 4gauge cable! Now the damn Chinese are slowing down with eating our copper I think it's settled back down a bit :P

What about if the unit has the CHR button. The din plug for the CD changer in the back of the HU must have the signal wires like an AUX. The prob is finding out which wire is which?

I have the same setup and noone in adel can get the faceplate for the unit (don't know why). So i was wondering if anyone knew about the CHR button and if its possible to fit a 3.5mm jack onto the cd changer cable. I would happily do this myself but all the subaru dealers in adelaide cant seem to find the part no. for the changer, which makes sourcing the cable a little difficult. Also, does anyone know about mounting a screen into the dash storage compartment (GPS or otherwise as i would like to do a build for a incar PC, one of the other forum posts gave me some ideas).

Also first post! wooo!

Thanks Guys.

Hey welcome mate!
Im in the same predicament with mine and im thinking of buying a EA1251 clarion ipod devise which connects into the CeNET connection in the back of the Headunit. I just hope that the CeNET connection is what connects the factory changer connects into. Prob is trying to find a genuine clarion unit as there are take offs on ebay that apparently don't perform the task as well.

cheers
Dan

Sounds like a possibility. I'm currently running a Bury X Bluetooth Intergrated system but the A2DP streaming is really reverby so a lot of vocals get lost in reverb. The system is brilliant for phone and Nav readouts its just when the music is streaming i have a problem. Is there any toher option than the EA1251 as i dont currently own or use an iPod, so far i havn't found an other option.
