Removing Mcintosh headunit, keeping Mcintosh amp

Postby tangcla » Thu Sep 24, 2009 9:05 am

Has anyone done this? I want to replace the Mcintosh with a satnav solution, would like to keep the stock amp though.

I now have a complete McIntosh system (head unit, power amp, and cables) loose in a box, which I'm going to make into an experimental tool.
In particular I'm going to try cutting the DIN cable between HU and amp to try injecting other audio signals there. This is a few weeks off, but is going to happen :)

I am pretty sure loweart has done it and I think gumbyy also retained the stock amp when he changed his head unit

Well Tony's right and wrong.......

As my signature says' I'm minus the McIntoss !

My McIntosh amp is still mounted under the passenger seat, but it's not plugged in to anything. My latest headunit is wired directly into my aftermarket Focal speakers. At some point when I have some spare time, I will remove the McIntosh amp completely and wire in my 4 channel power amp to my speakers and head unit.

I believe some previous threads/forum members had done the aftermarket HU connecting to the factory amp if I'm not mistaken, but I can't remember who that might have been ????? Sorry.

Cheers,
Lok

Are you able to do it any sooner Ric? I possibly have a headunit on the way if it can be done !

Sorry, no. The next couple of weeks are flat out with other things.

I'm keen to do it, but it will take a big chunk of a weekend, and I just can't squeeze it in for a while.
