If you just want a sub you could probably get away with a lineout convertor tapped into the rear speakers, then connect that to the amp and sub. If you want full range speakers than a lineout convertor will sound really bad. In that case if you really have to keep the stock head unit then get a processor like the JL Audio Cleansweep.

I considered all the options and ended up converting to a double DIN dash fascia and transferring my head unit from old car.

Didn't the early base model libs have a factory Kenwood single DIN unit? You should be able to yank it and drop in a cheap replacement with decent features like RCA outs for a Sub.

Don't spose you've got a pic of the stock fascia setup?

All the speaker wires into the glove box and then a Kenwwod head deck in there as well. Fits perfectly, and stops wandering eyes from seeing it while parked. Close the glovebox and the car looks stock. ;)
