Ey guys
i have the base model 05 lib with the shit stock stereo.
My question is can i hook a amp and sub up to this?

what stereo is urs?
mine is the base stereo with sat nav.. going to be chucking some subs in there in a few weeks time.. had to get a freakin connector for my head unit which gave me sub out....
cost me a bomb too!

If you just want a sub you could probably get away with a lineout convertor tapped into the rear speakers, then connect that to the amp and sub. If you want full range speakers than a lineout convertor will sound really bad. In that case if you really have to keep the stock head unit then get a processor like the JL Audio Cleansweep.
I considered all the options and ended up converting to a double DIN dash fascia and transferring my head unit from old car.

Didn't the early base model libs have a factory Kenwood single DIN unit? You should be able to yank it and drop in a cheap replacement with decent features like RCA outs for a Sub.
Don't spose you've got a pic of the stock fascia setup?

All the speaker wires into the glove box and then a Kenwwod head deck in there as well. Fits perfectly, and stops wandering eyes from seeing it while parked. Close the glovebox and the car looks stock.
