My Install

Thought i'd throw up a couple of pics of my install. I've been waiting for a number of these components since April as the vendor (not from this website) i purchased them from was stuffing me around. Anyhow, all the gear has arrived and has now been installed.

Kenwood KOS-L702 Monitor
Kenwood KOS-V500 Headunit
Kenwood KNA-G500 Navigation
Kenwood Bluetooth Unit
Kenwood Ipod cable
Audison LRx 5.1k Amplifier
HERTZ HSK 163, 3 way
HERTZ HX 300 D 12"

For anyone interested, i actually purchased all the Kenwood items from the US which saved me a considerable amount of money. All components work without a problem, the only thing required is the Australian Garmin City Navigator maps. Obviously the US nav unit comes with US maps. The Aussie maps can be purchased for around $150 and simply slot into the Nav unit and works like a charm.

How my setup works is the headunit sits under the passenger seat and connects to the touch screen monitor which has replaced the cubby hole above the Macintosh. I have it connected so that i can still use the 6 disc macintosh stacker and radio from the Macintosh (Radio doesnt work on US headunits). The Kenwood is connected to the Macintosh via the auxiallary-in. I have placed a USB hub in the box between the seats allowing me to plug in a USB hard drive and the Ipod cable.

I'll post up some more pics once the light is better.

Impressive work mate. Bluetooth and GPS is something I would love to have had on my Lib but not for the sort of $$ required.

Fantastic to hear pipes06 it all works from the states................

I have also just installed a Kenwood head unit and was deciding on the KNA-G431 add on. Now i know the KNA-510 works, i will go that way because of the price.

Tell me about the Garmin maps, are they any good? Are the maps like in the Garmin nuvi 765 with lane change and 3D buildings? Would these maps work on the KNA?

Does the KNA unit have trafic update? (if subscribed to)

Any further info would be great.................

I had a nuvi 660 and the maps look exactly the same. It does do 3d maps but not with buildings. Not too sure about the software on the nuvi 765, the software I got was the garmin city navigator 2010. You can pick up the nav unit for $329 from dealer cost audio. Yes, it does traffic updates. All in all, the software is relatively basic but very easy to use and as I mentioned it appears to be the same as my 660.

Xlr83n - Yes, the install was custom.

Reviving an old thread, but am I right in assuming that if I get a 510/520 GPS (which will work with the subaru factory screens) that I can install easily the Aus mapping?
