Relatively Cheap Aux in / Ipod in for McIntosh!

After lots of searching, I had given up, but there _IS_ a relatively cheap Aux / Ipod in solution for McIntosh units with the Clarion CE-NET port on the back...

One of these...

http://www.audio-discounters.com/aip-cl-id.html

It's made by these guys ( http://www.axxessinterface.com/ ) but I can't see this specific model on their site so I linked to a random retailer...

$55 USD roughly and it essentially emulates a CD changer and adds an iPod input (may not work with touch Gen 2 or iPhone 3G) an an Aux input.

I just had one installed today and it's great. Output level is a shade lower than the radio or CD, but it's a genuine Line In which makes me a very happy camper!

Cheers - Neil G

Sorry, I should have been clearer about that... I was told it didn't support ipod Touch gen 2 directly and I would have to use the Aux input...

I just tested it...

It DOES support the ipod touch Gen2 mostly... It doesn't charge from the dock cable that was installed, and it pops up 2 messages that have to be dismissed when plugged in (the iPod cannot charge from this cable)... but the audio played perfectly.

It doesn't display any track info on the Mcintosh, and you can't use the McIntosh controls to go forward or back tracks like you can with the 1251... but I prefer to control from the iPod anyway - so it's all a win for me.

If I have to charge as well, I can use a compatible AV cable with USB to charge instead, but most of the time I can just plug it into the dock connector the guys installed today.

I am very happy.

Cheers - N

Hmmm... Thats a deal breaker for me... its got to charge the iPod and allow it to be controlled by the headunit to be worthwhile IMO... FAIL!

And since you have an MY07, you can already use the aux-in anyway... so this is of no real use to you.

Clarion EA1251

Doesn't display song title, but it allows control of up to five iPod playlists (named CLARION1 through to CLARION5) and charges through the adaptor.

ahh yes i do remember reading abit about them on here a while ago..

the whole 5 playlist thing is abit of a turn off for me id actually want to be able to freely select music.

This other one in OP is this able to freely select music via the ipod? or still limited to only 5 playlists??

The two key questions are:

Does this work with all Gen IV McIntosh equipped Liberty's, all the way back to MY04?

Does this allow full control of the iPod, meaning no need to create playlists ala the stupid EA1251?

There's been a lot of talk over the years where people have asked for this sort of thing. This could be the answer to a lot of people's prayers.

Is this of any help you two?

not really as hes talking about using the controls on the head unit to scroll through songs on the playlist...

What i would like to know is, if you can just freely browse the ipods library and click on any song in the ipod and it will play through the stereo.. avoiding any playlists.

his comment that "you can't use the Macintosh to go forward or back tracks" implies to me that you have to use the ipod to control its music. Maybe I'm wrong
