McIntosh not reading MP3 CD's consistently

Postby cpitts » Wed May 20, 2009 11:54 am

Hey guys,

My McIntosh unit's getting a bit skittish when reading burnt MP3 CD's. It seems to vary on the slot that disks are in and have issues if you have 3 or 4 MP3 CD's in the first few slots then drop another one in slot 6. Same CD works fine in other slots. CD is freshly burnt on a Verbatim CD (700Mb), rewritable CD's, etc. The CD drive in the head unit is SO tempremental (or is that just mental).

The issue usually presents as putting a CD in the slot and then the head unit telling me to EJECT CD's, at which point it craps itself repeatedly until you eject almost all CD's.

This head unit is progressively pissing me off and I'm leaning more and more toward a full replacement, but the McIntosh does look so clean and neat.

Has anyone had this kind of EJECT CD issue?
If so, what luck have you had with Subaru Australia actually repairing/replacing the unit?
From my contact with Clarion they'd be sending it back OS to repair most likely, so I don't like my chances. Looks like it might just be easier to find a nice after market unit and adapters for the steering wheel controls.

Any help out there on this?
