Fascia Chop

ok after just getting a 07 liberty with the very average standard kenwood stereo in it i started looking around at new hus and fascias. to my dismay they are damn expensive as subaru decided to intergrate the aircon controls. okay so everyone knows this, but has anyone done or seen a chop job on one of these

could you not (very carefully of course) remove the stereo and aircon from the original fascia, trim the top section off, and then trim the bottom off the us version and install both? could it be done? can the hazard light switch be relocated to the right hand side to suit?

sorry if this has been covered or its a completely idiotic thing to suggest, just looking for other options than a $500 piece of plastic!

See the 'double din mac ' thread just recently posted. If you dont have a Mac system, you can buy the parts for double din ($A500) from a couple of places. BTDT in an Outback.

Sorry.
Yes, of course one could do what you suggest, but unless you were a VERY meticulous workman, with all the right tools, it would be obvious what had been done, and it would look like a chop job. The JDM panels look natural and neat and proper, as they should. They also come with the aerial adapter, as Suby dont use std connection there.
I bought the separate a/c control and double din for my OB in 05 and fitted it with a JVC DVD reader head unit, and when I got rid of the car I pulled it all back out, and sold the facia & a/c panel for MORE than I paid for it!
If there was way to feed std audio outs to the Mac amp,I would do it all in a flash.

yeah i realise that it would look modified, but i have a mate that deals alot with plastic production etc so probably would be able to do an ok job. i really would like a fascia kit but the price is just too much for me at the moment. i guess i will keep an eye out for second hand ones.

cheers

iF YOU CAN GET A Neat job, go for it. You will need the adapter from Suby aerial feed to std coax connector from somewhere though. Sing out if you cant source one, I think I have something leftover that I bought when I looked at splicing an fm modulator into the feed. And obviously an adapter from your head unit to Suby connector, I think Aerpro do these.
