Hello Peoples,

I was wondering if anyone knew whether PHAT GT ( Michael ) is still able to supply the AV Panel Kit so that we can fit aftermarket sound systems into our Liberty's ?

I recall reading somewhere recently that he no longer provided this service ?

Geez I'm hopeless, I haven't even taken delivery of my Liberty yet and I'm already planning and scheming like a man possessed Seriously, I don't think I could handle listening to the McIntoss system for too long.

He doesn't supply anything any more - at least that's what he's been leading everyone to believe.

maby we could get those intrested in the AV kits and possibily ask if theres a group discount possibile? or maby even group freight?

The McIntosh premium system isn't so bad! One of the best quality standard audio systems IMO.. and it looks great.

Edit: I've got a silver double din fascia if anybody wants to swap for a black one.. for one reason or another! Or I might sell it and get in on a GB if it ever happens.

I have to admit that the McIntosh Premium sounds system isn't so bad and is better than most manufacturer supplied incar audio.

I guess I have what many call "golden ears" ! I'm not interested in the "doof, doof" just GREAT sound quality. I recently test drove a private sale MY04 2.0GT that had the McIntosh Premium system and found it to be too "warm" sounding. I think when they designed this system, they must have been trying to reproduce that famous circa 1960's McIntosh valve amp sound. I didn't even bother turning on the stereo when I test drove the 3.0R......

The AV Panel sets are available from japanparts.com and according to the product photo, the kit is in BLACK. I've sent a few emails to them and they said that's the only colour that Subaru supply to them and although they didn't have one in stock she could look at, as far as she is concerned the one on their website is definately BLACK - but choose carefully as they don't allow returns.

I've already got a silver/grey AV Panel set that I got from PHAT GT last year that I had in my Liberty 2.5 and may just keep for fitting to my 3.0R but what I'll do is source the gear shift plate, ashtray and console surround secondhand in the same silver/grey to match. I think I can get away with it because the 3.0R's have the black and cream interior so if the dash panel is all silver/grey it shouldn't look out of place - fingers crossed.

Anyway, I have spent the last couple of days wheeling and dealing to get the best pricing on all the bits I'll need and man does the cost mount up quickly . At this stage, I'm planning to have 2 way splits in the front doors and 2 way co-axials in the rear doors using Focal Access1 speakers. Headunit will be a Kenwood DDX5032 single disc double DIN unit that has 6.1 inch touch screen of which I'll add an external SAT Nav box and Bluetooth module to. I'm still in two minds whether to reuse my 4 channel Eclipse amp I have stored away, guess I'll decide when I hear the Kenwood running.

Lol what timing I emailed Phat about the D Din facia for a MY07 with the dual climate controls but no responses yet and was wondering whether he is still helping or not......

I'm keen to get 1 to suit my car but at $450 from japanparts its a bit of a turn off.

Is there anyone else on the forums that can import at a decent price????

Haha. He used to participate and help out, but then some folks who haven't modded Libertys of their own started to lecture him and everyone else on how to best mod the Liberty.

However it's been rumored that he may return to parts ordering after January. Hopefully the exchange rate might be a bit better than as well.

The last one I bought from PHAT GT last year was about $350 delivered and that was when the $AUD was running high before the BiG economic melt down. I believe $450AUD at the moment is representative of the low currency exchange and still better than the price that Subaru parts would charge which I gather must be over $900 by now for sure.

PHAT GT was very helpful with providing me with the correct information and the parts. Shame to hear that some of the inexperienced folks were trying to lecture him.......... spoils it for everyone.

Im definitely interested in a Group Buy but it would be difficult with the 3 different versions of AV Panel available on japanparts.com and buyers would want different ones + its a shame it does not come in silver anymore??. Also, the part numbers do not seem to match the correct pictures on the website??

I sent an email to Japanparts.com to try an clarify which of the panels were available and Yuki said that they only come in black as depicted on their website.

The one I have that PHAT GT sourced for me last year was the silver/grey which suited my previous Liberty 2.5 but I'll soon be picking up my new ride which is a 3.0R that has the black AV panel........

I wonder if AVO turboworld or their other arm JDMparts may have still have the AV Panel set available in the silver/grey ?

i know that phat has been sick and has said he will look at getting back into it in january,ill see him tomorrow and get an update for you
