MY21 Outback speaker improvements?

The head unit in the new models is streets ahead of the MY06 Macintosh unit, but I'm pretty disappointed in the Harmon Kardon speaker system.
From what is meant to be a "Premium 9-speaker system", 95% of the sound is coming from just two speakers up near the windscreen, so it is noticeably coming from in front of you rather than all around.
This was a very new Touring model I had for the weekend, but I don't think it was faulty.
Does anyone have any comments about the audio in the current models, or ideas if it can be improved easily?
