Postby overl0ad » Tue Nov 25, 2008 9:02 pm

just wondering if i'm the only one, but there's a HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS in the system, can really hear it when the volume is at 1 or somethign low.

also, the stagin in the system isn't that great, fos some reason, it's actually worse than the clarity (not volume) that i had in my 2.5i..

everyone else think it's the same or is it just me?

The only noise I hear at low volumes is the cooling fan in the power amp under the passenger seat.

also, the stagin in the system isn't that great

The what? :?

You're welcome to have a listen to mine when you get your tshirt :)

Sounds like a good reason for a get-together to compare stereos! ;)

Mine has the hiss too at level 1, and nothing at 0. It's annoying but I've gotten used to it now - my last car had a $3k nakamichi deck, so I've been somewhat spoilt in that regard.

Agree with the staging etc - but I won't be touching it as it's fine enough for a stock system (for now) :)

Ric, hisss might be an 07+ thing...

Yep, I have the same problem. I keep meaning to talk to Subaru about it when I take the car in for a service, but I never remember.

The time I notice it the most is when playing quiet classical pieces. But also when the volume is at 1. It happens no matter the source, AM, FM or CD.

Hey guys i kno this is an old thread but i finnally just got mine fixed and thought i would let you know what it was on my car. After 3 months of complaints the finnaly replaced my head unit and found the noise was still there. The solution was that when the FACTORY fitted alram was installed the internal in cab screamer siren was positioned next to the instrument loom which was causing the noise they moved the siren and all is now ok.......

i'm thinking that i'll make them replace the whole system if i have to.

cos the static noise really drives me crazy. makes it hard to just have background music which i'm trying to talk to people in my car...

system is stock. no sat nav.

electrics in the car are stock except for a pivot racing monitor which read (only reads and nothing else) from the OBDII port

haven't even put in a grounding kit.

ok, got it replaced today.

basically ended up with the same HHHHHHHHIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

but i've found that it's driven by the treble setting. at 0, it's almost not noticable. at 6, it's quite clear.

i'm intrested in who else has this issue as i'm considering contacting McIntosh about it. their home systems are fantastic, but to put their name to such an average system...
