NAV replacment problem.

im trying to replace the nav whit and Raspberry PI, so far i got its to work, and the fitmet is perfect!

Anyway...
the problem i got is this button.

the nav stuff behinde the display are gone, so there is no way for me to dim the cluster.

so the question is if there are in anyway to change the brightness in any outer way?
beucse i live in sweden, and here its agenst the law to not run whit your headlights on, and when i do that its get hard to read the gauge on a sunny day?

Yes saw the post on FB.
What year is your car?

We have an 07 gtb with nav, headlights used all the time.
The cluster is dimmed with the cabin illumination roll switch on the mirror control switch.

We have an 05 2.5i, headlights always on.
The cluster iirc is dimmed with a 4 button clock with bright button.
The latter certainly dims or brightens the clock, stock radio and hvac.

Not sure what your year is but look for the clock harness in the wiring diagrams in your FSM, and in your car.

The issue with the power/pinout might be a variable ground being used for the illumination, but maybe or not for illumination control.

Anyway you can retrofit a clock to the ashtray with the oem kit and extension.
Or reverse engineer the original nav illumination control.

the car is an 05 3.0RSB

it looks like its computer controld in the unit, or atlast its a signal stuff via can-bus or something.

i got it on the mirror control and the buttons on the nav, the problem is that if i pull the battery off it resets to the low settings when i starts the car agen.
it well be at the high setting if i turn off the lights, but in sweden its agenst the law to not run your car whitout the lights on.
and if i put the lights on the cluster go dark mode.

Yes there’s a setting on the stock nav, user settings > map mode > auto, day, night.

Mine is set to Auto.

Reverts illumination control to the roll switch.

Therefore, lookup the stock nav service manual to peep the pinouts.

I have a copy on Dropbox, will share later if required.

the setting in the nav is just for the screen, not the cluster, and i dont even use the nav its not working. at all. =)
i have follow from the button on the nav to some sort of cpu, but after that im lost, i have no clue where its gets out, or even if i can change the lights after the gps removed.

here are some images how its looks, the first images is a normal nav.
to get it to work as normal, i need all the "bords" in it, but i dont need to have the screen on it.

the second images is what i need to have for the new display to work.

Yes well the clock harness is likely used by the nav harness.

Just as nav brightness mode has three positions and the clock has two, it’s probably your clue to switching between night and day mode on the roll switch.

Indeed using the FSM (for clock) wiring and pinout diagrams and or the nav service manual pinouts will give you a good idea as to the control schema.

I’m certainly going to get around to looking it up just for fun.
Due to the variable ground scenario that’s used in some gen4 circuits, it’s likely that some trickery like a diode or resistor is required to send the right signal.

There’s clues as to the year and model clocks as well. They’re either 3 or 4 button, the latter with Bright button.

So what year is your H6?
As stock did the car have nav, or what type of clock?
If it had a cubby clock, was it 3 or 4 button and what was the fuel consumption readout, eg km/100 or l/km etc?

Also if you get stuck, svxdc on lgt forum is an absolute genius at this stuff.
Additionally there’s yahoo jp vendors that supply all sorts of related harnesses etc.

The car is a Legacy 3.0R spec-B, got the nav as standard in all H6 here when it was supposed to be the luxury model.
the nav brightness modes are on the DVD and nav menu, if u remove the dvd u dont have it anymore. (auto, night and day)

So this is a site that aggregates yahoo jp in English, car navigation section, bp bl keywords.

Iirc of the various harnesses on offer there’s some that integrate aftermarket nav audio with the stock head units.

As for svxdc, you can pm him on legacyGT forum or email via his website: http://ae64.com

A simple method to cure your ills might be to use the correct clock for your car eg with Bright button, and use an oem clock relocation kit with extension harness or diy extension harness.

That’s the route I’ll take to install a short chassis nav screen in a jdm 2din nav fascia in our 05 2.5i with Bright button.

Or get into the FSM info to reverse engineer it. FSM workshop manual links in my signature below.

I took a peek at the my07 FSM.
The clock wiring diagrams split models 3 ways, no illumination control/Bright/4 button, illumination control/no Bright/3 button and display mode/Display/4 button.

Fascinating. On cars with illumination control, the clock is linked to the BCM.

Anyhow, looking at the cabin illumination wiring diagram is also interesting.

Ok, it’s an 05, stock nav.

Interesting unit: no individual reverse camera or a/v input.
I’ll look into it more later.

So I downloaded the service manual for your example nav screen.

Intriguingly the clock is one of the front buttons.

Therefore you can compare the nav pinout and functions with eg the nav illumination circuit in the FSM wiring diagrams.
