Postby drewdayism » Thu Sep 05, 2019 2:25 pm

in need of some info

basically i just wanna add a carplay system to my 2006 subaru liberty

i think ill add it to the cubby storage area in the dash as i have the one piece stero / HVAC and a double din fascia cost approx $1000 (not willing to pay that)

ill probably add this https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/in-car-receivers-players/xav-ax1000

i currenty have the cubby area with the clock so im guessing ill need H0017AG915

so it can look similar to this

can anyone let me know if im on the right track here

There’s 2 types of jdm nav bezel: Toyota/Subaru wide 2din and normal 2din (1st pic ^^)
Member hardwarebob sells various adapter harnesses etc if required for your install.

I have a 2din bezel if you can’t find one.
If you do buy one preferably source it with the ac vent extensions to suit.

Probably asking on the FB groups or import monster, http://www.jessestreeter.com.
Mine owes me $150 plus post which is around the going rate locally for either type iirc.

The wide type is H0017AG915 which has the 200x100mm cutout.

The narrow type is H0017AG932 with the 119x180mm cutout.

Hey Bud.

Not sure how much work it will be i just took the JDM Sat Nav cubby out of my car, recently insalled a new head unit.
will grab some photos for you, I will be looking to off load it soon.

Might work for you might not. Will update when I get home.

Matt

JDM Cubby - This is the one taken from the car, which had I believe a 7 Inch touchscreen device for the sat nav (Was Japanese only, and had only Japan Maps) - A Little useless here in Australia. However the average fuel usage and throttle position was nice.

JDM Cubby Inside diagonal distance: (7inch screen should fit nicely)
Here is the backside of the cubby, looks like it is 7 inch opening, so any 7 inch tablet/screen would fit nicely. Japanese model comes with a thicker bezel so it locks to screen in place.

Car Final: This is how the car looks now, have little kids so was looking for reverse camera and bluetooth, so went this route. Little more expensive but it looks nicer with the factory facia.

What's the main reason you want carplay? Is it the ability to control Apple Music on the screen?

If so, I've got Apple Music running seamlessly on my Nexus 7 install. Much to my amazement, Apple Music actually have an android version available in the Google Play Store! :D

Simply install it, log in to your account and boom, your full music library is instantly synced and up to date. It's awesome and unlike double din conversions, the Nexus install looks completely factory.

Sadly there is no ability to link the actual phone to the tablet, but I have the factory bluetooth handsfree which works perfectly for answering incoming calls and I have no need/desire to be able to make calls or send/receive texts whilst behind the wheel.

I’m sure there’s ways to mirror an iPhone on a nexus 7.
I’ll have to google it lol.

I thought I wanted that, but TBH you can install almost all the apps you want directly on the Nexus, so there’s really no need to connect it to you phone in practice. Mine just uses the WiFi hotspot for internet connection and that’s it.

You can also try getting a signal booster. I got a good one from (spammy link removed by ric). You can check your signal via mobile app. Good luck!
