gen 4 climate control from McIntoch

hey guys,

I got myself a gen 4, and i've seen this topic done before. but i want to make confirm whether or not i can do this, before i start spending the money. so hear me out

I'm thinking about buying the mcintosh climate control system from a wreck (i was looking at wrecks for an aftermarket fascia, when i got the idea), then getting just the top section off ebay or what not??
what problems would i be looking at if i tried this route. i know i can get the full fascia units from japanparts (or something like that) but it was like $550 not including shipping.

just in case it makes a difference, it's an 04 outback 3.0 h6. I'm located in brisbane

Is this what you mean except you want to end up with a double din unit instead of this one that is single din and pocket. This was done due to the sound quality,phone features and variety of inputs of the Alpine single din model fitted..

yeah. i want to be able to fit an aftermarket head unit.
