Blown Sub :( Replacement Needed

Postby tommybelbrah » Fri Oct 19, 2018 10:18 am

Hey Guys,

I suspect my rear sub is gone as whenever a song comes on with a bit of bass it crackles/rattles like a mofo, interestingly only some songs that engage the rear sub do this.

Anyway, not looking to upgrade the whole system as pretty happy with the rest of it, just looking for a straight plug and play replacement speaker/sub.

Any recommendations for replacement and who can do it ?

I live in Sydney.

Car is an 08 Liberty GT Spec B.

Cheers,

https://www.google.com.au/search?biw=32 ... aaFrs5Z5mc

Try this, add keywords as required... And yes you can install it.

Hey Benny,

I scoured through the sub replacement threads and the problem is all the links have gone dead now. Wondering if anyone has done this recently or can point me in the direction to source the new sub - preferably something not too expensive i.e $100 - $150 if possible.

OK to narrow down your search look for low profile (rear depth to mount distance) 8" subs, single voice coil (SVC).

Depending on the depth and location eg sedan/wagon, you may need a mounting spacer.

Then look for an efficiency level close to stock if you're running it from the stock amp, around 90db is fine iirc.

From memory Polk MM, Polk MD, Rockford Fosgate, Kicker all make subs that will work.

Look up the brand website, then ask here (WTB), FB ISO, google, ebay or amazon the model number for cheapest price inc post.

For install issues and resolutions do a site-specific search of this forum. Like this:

Thanks Benny,

I have narrowed it down to these 2:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BOSS-AUDIO- ... rk:11:pf:0

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/POLK-DB842- ... SwArFbxuMz

Both 8" SVC. Can i go with either of these as a direct replacement ?

I don’t think so.
You’re missing some key points.
It’s not about the power, it’s the efficiency.
And the back space dimensions for fitment.
Do you own research using the manufacturer part number, on the manufacturers website regarding those specs and get back to me on if they’ll fit or be compatible with eg the stock amp.
Maybe look on eBay for the actual subs I listed.
Perhaps measure the available clearance in your car.
Look up the FSM procedure for removing the rear parcel shelf if that’s relevant to your install.

https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw ... e+8%22+sub

There’s other options but remember, the poor man pays twice.

If you’re too tight, or lack the basic skills, eg research, reasoning, basic electronic and mechanics, just unhook the sub and enjoy hassle free motoring.

Same goes for your planned mods.
If you can’t look after yourself and can’t throw money at someone else to do it for you, you’re heading into dangerous territory for your wallet and sanity. Imho.

Yea this stuff is definitely not my forte. I will get someone to install it most likely as fiddling around with wires and spacers etc is not worth it.

Someone on the FB page recently installed one of these as a direct replacement.

http://www.soundlabsgroup.com.au/p/V-90 ... 00+-+4+Ohm

Stats look very similar to the stock sub.

The one you linked looks alot better but with the stock amp its probably not worth spending the extra coin.

Bingo.
I paid extra for a polk, as I like bass.
The sound labs item should be fine, just consider its very much like the stocker in terms of construction, in addition to the response & dimensions.
