Well, you may or may not want to know this info (depending on how good you think McIntosh _should_ be) but here's the tech specs for the little amp that's under the passenger seat in your MY07 Lib GT Spec B (and possibly the std Lib GT as well).
The Specs:
The plugs (and yes, the signal is balanced):

it makes noise fairly well = I'm happy
Although mine is prone to skipping when playing a CD on more than slightly bumpy surfaces

That's identical to my MY06 deck.
I'm curious why there is provision for "amp-on", but the amplifier appears to always be on when ACC is on, even when the head unit is powered off.

As semi stated above, if you're happy with how it sounds, it's perfect.
If you're not happy with the sound, it's not perfect.
Technically, you can go WELL above this. But it's all at a cost and with MANY trade-offs.

Actually, another thing that concerns me a bit is that the Hu sends down the usual signals:
Front R, FL, Rear R, RL
But sends out:
Front, Rear, Centre and Sub
Clearly there's some form of X-Over in there that's completely unknown.
If the centre channel chops whole frequency ranges from the front doors, then any range of speaker upgrades could be seriously impacted. Similarly for the sub channel! Having pulled the amp out and done as much pulling apart as I want at this stage, there's not points on it to tune the X-O points. :/

well to tell you the truth im disapointed in my system in the wgn.
not louder enough despite making changes to the bass treble fader etc etc.
its really got no balls to be honest... yes i know its a liberty and not supposed to be loud but it should have more ooommpphh

Ye, it's very gutless and lacks a LOT in the SQ end.
I'm in the midst of changing over all speakers first to some high end stuff to see how much that improves things.
After this, I'll deaden the doors which will help a LOT, but won't solve all the problems.
Then the real upgrade stuff gets done -> amps first THEN head units. Amps will easily get the power needed but only HU will get back the full SQ, fingers crossed speakers and amp will reveal the quality of the HU hiding behind the crap amp and cross over networks.

Do the sound deadening first! cos I want to know if it makes much of a difference on the stock speaker setup

Deadening will, it's just that I've got the speakers now so that's the cheap get
There's no deadening on the outer skin which will massively improve mid/bass and doing the inner door skin will aid a little bit more on creating a nice tight speaker base and cabinet.

So just checking that the unit has no av output jacks for a amp?

It doesn't have standard RCA outputs, no.
There are also no video outputs from the HU.
The SatNav though has NTSC video input.
