2005 McIntosh Stereo completely dies

Hi all,

I just bought a 2005 3.0R spec B and now find a small issue with the stereo.
It's the pre face lift model with the McIntosh with the plain rectangle buttons (opposed to the cool round later model ones)

In a nutshell, after driving for about 1.5 - 2hrs, the stereo just "dies", gone, nothing !!
Push buttons everywhere but no responce.

So I turn the car completely off and start her up again ..... stereo fires back into life as is nothing has happened ! :?

Does anyone know if this is a "known or common" problem for this model/stereo ?
.... or can suggest where to even start looking for a problem ?

I've heard of many problems with the Mcintosh stereos before. Very prone to blowing internal fuses.
Check the grounds for each connector, cause that might be the issue.
Otherwise, I have a spare one in Brisbane if you'd like it

Thanks for the offer Finny,

I have not since had this issue in the 6 weeks or so I've owned the car.
I usually only drive 15mins - 1hr max, so I might just not ever see this problem again ..... hopefully.

It hasn't missed a beat and I just fitted a new Kenwood sub ..... so sounding sweet now :)
Just need to fit my new Clarion anycar box sometime soon and I'll be wired to my usb and phone :D

Just fitted the Anycar unit and it works a treat.
