2004 Liberty 2.0 - Type F stereo... AUX in/USB options?

Postby DiggityDan554 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 9:54 am

Hey guys

I'm brand new to the Suburu family, bought myself an 04 Liberty 2.0. Flicking through the forum before I signed up I couldn't seem to find any info on my particular setup. My car doesn't have a McIntosh system, it's got what the Liberty Owners Manual calls the "Type F" stereo, which has a CD player and FM/AM. Right now in order to listen to my iPod I have to use an FM Transmitter which sounds like crud, so I'm looking for a no-nonsense way of getting audio directly to the stereo.

I couldn't tell if any of the suggestions on one of the stickies work for my system (they all mention McIntosh systems, which as I mentioned... I don't have). If anyone can simply point me in the right direction, that'd be great.

Thanks!

Dan

Hey Dan,

Not sure what the 'Type F' head unit is exactly, but the GROM car kits do have pretty wide support - especially if it's a Kenwood system.

Compatibility info here:

Check out the GROM USB3, probably a good fit for you.

Cheers

See image attached.

According to the model number on the stereo it is a GX-201KN

The website you linked to doesn't mention my model number as compatible which is a shame :-/

There is a chance it may be, GROMs compatibility guide isn't always complete and we've found broader Subaru head unit compatibility with more recent firmware. I'd advise pulling out the head unit and checking that it has a 20-pin port for an external CD Changer though. If you go to that effort, take photos of the back of the HU and email them to sales@cushieaudio.com.au

Cheers
