MY10 head unit

Postby MY10GTI » Sun Apr 24, 2016 11:23 am

Hi guys, awesome forum.

Just wondering if any one here has changed there McIntosh head unit with success to an Apple Car play unit? Went to Strathfield car radios and they're saying I need to get the fascia from a lower model to get the pioneer head unit in. Looking for other people's experience. I'm over the McIntosh and want to put my old speakers in the Liberty too.

Currently have a 2010 Liberty GT wagon.

Thanks

No reason why an apple car play unit would be any different to any other double din HU

Just grab a fascia from japanparts.com and go from there gutting everything from the Mcintosh system and starting fresh.

MY10 head unit

Thanks Andy. Yeah it'll be a pioneer or alpine double din. Only problem might be steering wheel controls and rear camera still being functional. The guy couldn't give me a straight answer about anything. Said I'd be spending anywhere from 600-750 for a new fascia and it wasn't worth it. I'll call Japan tomoz as I couldn't see anything suitable on their site

Can't comment on the reversing camera but the Axxess interface works with almost anything for the steering wheel controls

Not much of a description to confirm it is what you're after but think that'd be it

May need that too since the opening doesn't appear to be quite a double din shape and don't think it's included with the other one.

Definately worth giving Japanparts.com an email to confirm what parts you need.

MY10 head unit

Thanks Andy.

This is the response I got.

Anyone here orders this part and confirm it fits?

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Your car is not JDM (Japan Domestic Model), so we cannot know whether the panel in question fits on your car or not.

Yours sincerely,

Did you end up getting anywhere with this? I would really love to swap out the OEM nav screen on mine but realllllly don;t want to lose any functionality!

Hey guys!

I did the full audio upgrade finally. I went through Profound Sound in Melb to get it done. They stripped the whole car and put in the new stuff

Ordered the Fascia and headunit enclosure from Japanparts which came out to be $380 delivered
https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/40703
https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/29758 - for 7inch screen

Headunit - Kenwood DNX8160DABS
Amp - Alpine PDX-V9
2x Alpine 5" typeR splits - for the 4 doors, tweeters in front and boot roof
Hertz 8'' slimline sub - fit into the factory enclosure

Functionality wise they kept steering wheel volume, track skip and mode buttons working. Couldn't get the steering wheel phone buttons to work which is apparently a common struggle.
The fascia also didn't come with any supports for the headunit so they had to custom make those and fit it.
All up though everything sounds amazing and the old headunit really annoyed me cos it was old, so well worth the swap.
