Subwoofer to fit stock wagon layout

G'day guys, i've got an 05 wagon and want to get a better sub than what comes stock. Seen a lot of threads of people doing custom installs or matching subs to the Macintosh head unit, but not a whole lot on subs that will mount straight into the wagon without any serious modification to mounts.

Sub is going to be driven by a small alpine amp which will give me 150Wrms @ 4ohm, 250Wrms@2ohm. I was thinking of getting a pioneer shallow sub, but i don't want to mess around with making new mounts or covers so i wanted to see if anyone has experience installing aftermarket subs? Is there better/mpre suited options out there.

Mm840 on a 12mm spacer, stock cover gutted and 12mm standoffs to the lower mounting plugs.
Cavity enclosed & sealed with resomat, and lined with spray glued aluminium foil.
Driven by stock amp w/ resistor mod on sub channel.
Works a treat for minimal budget, looks totally stock.

Just the spacer and stand offs and how it sits with them attached

Standoffs x2 lower, just a tek screw with tube spacer drilled into the stock plug plus some hot glue...
The inside of the grille was gutted with a dremel for clearance.
Speaker spacer was cut from sheets of thick card lol

Single or dual voice coil?

Single I'd say, just one set of connectors on the speaker...

Needs moar sound deadener this time on the outside of the box, around the mount.

Sounds great, no real need to upgrade imho, just more vibration suppression to the general cargo area.

Doing mine now, just wondering if any of the auto shops have spacers in stock? Also by dremelling out the 7-8mm lip on the inside of the grill, was it enough to clear sub?

No, I needed to dremel, add standoffs to the speaker cover mounting plugs, and resomat extensively, basically making a sealed box behind the speaker in the available cavity space.

Zoom in on the pic above and you can just see the 2x 10-15mm standoffs, I may be repeating myself here but I used hot glue, tek screws and some sort of grey tube to do the standoffs.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'm re-asking the original Stacks posed at the start -- what's a good bolt on sub for a Gen IV wagon?

The creative idea suggested above by my mate BigBadBenny above is clever and suits those who want to drill, etc -- but I just want something that's plug and play and complements the stock MacIntosh set up well.

If the back dimension is an inch or less than a mm840 or similar to stock and the efficiency is similar you'll be fine imho

This may be too big, since you want to keep your boot space. But I had the same requirements, and this is perfect for my needs (minimal loss of boot space and looks stock because it fits in the stock location).

The 10" sub can't be powered by the factory amp, but you already have an aftermarket one for the sub, so that's good!

Thanks Tom & Ben. I'd like to get an 8" Kicker so that I can run the stock amp and HU. I just need to be sure I get the depth right so it drops right in. Nice set up you got there Tom.
