Gen 5 - Remove Satnav for Tablet?

Hi all,

As I'm going to sell my MY07 2.5i Lib wagon, I was going to get another Gen 4 GT or H6 wagon, but knowing how expensive the new fascia panels are (and the ones we want being harder to get) I have been looking int othe Gen 5's (even though they rate a 5/10 for looks, where the Gen 4 is a 9/10 haha).

I noticed in the GT models there is a rather large screen in there above the McIntosh unit already.

What functions come through on this screen, and is it attached to the fascia in any way, or would I be able to remove it to stick a tablet in where it was?

Having a tablet there would be absolutely perfect, because my DSP will have a remote control unit which I can put in the lower cubby area with a nice trim panel.

I can route both the stock stereo and the tablet through to my DSP and then to my amps.

Hopefully someone knows!

Haha no one is game enough to have tried removing it I bet.

Don't blame you, it's a good sized screen, why would you want to lol... Except in my case :(

Hmm interesting.

How much of that is controlled through the McIntosh head unit? Maybe I could remove the McIntosh unit and put the tablet there and have double screens...

All functions are controlled by the HU. And it's all one unit to pull out.
Big hunk of dash....

Damn, I'd have to do a full swap with the standard stereo if I get the car and want to do an aftermarket tablet / head unit?
