New headunit with McIntosh Amp?

Hi guys,

I've tired searching but having a real tough time finding a clear guide/DIY. I've got a 2005 Liberty GT with the McIntosh head unit, and I want to put in an aftermarket headunit. I'm not interested in upgrading the speakers or amp, I just want the upgraded head unit in the car. I had a WRX previously and had no problems doing a head unit swap in that (with pre-bundled cable converters, however).

I understand I need the Double DIN facia, what is required to connect the new head unit to the McIntosh Amp? Are there any off the shelf cable solutions, or will it require wiring to be done?

If there's anyone in Adelaide who has done this before, it would be great to have someone experienced do the wiring (if you can't buy connectors for it!)

Thanks

Also, with the 2005 pre-facelift, does it require just the Double DIN plate, or do I need to buy the climate control unit too? I assume the climate control separates from the McIntosh unit?

The standard McIntosh head units outputs Front Left; Front Right; Rear Left; Rear Right signals only.
The Amp outputs Front Left; Front Right; Rear Left; Rear Right PLUS SUB-WOOFER

The sub-woofer channel is synthesised within the amp.

I do not know the line level voltages output from the head unit nor the line level voltages required as input to the amp.

I've also got a MY05 and went through the same thing. I ended up replacing the amp as I couldn't find an off-the-shelf cable to connect a new headunit to the Mcintosh amp. Probably could do it with some wiring know-how but I wasn't game.
As for the fascia- my climate control unit was built into the head unit so I had to get a new one. Take your head unit out and have a look. It's probably built in.

Unlike you guys I have an 04 gt with the mcintosh HU not sure if the are identical? But I opted with a kenwood FXDB09MF2 conversion out of the later wrx's,I've true to make up an adaptive plug in order to conserve the original loom. The end result is a nice looking piece but as stated previously there is no subwoofer output and I am also struggling with this plus I am getting constant feedback which is also driving me insane lol, sorry to high-jack your post but does anyone know how to at least get rid of the feedback? I would suggest going with Gavin's path and also replacing the amp, I hope this helps :p
