Garmin 250W (aka Psycho nav-girl)

Postby OzSTi » Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:28 am

I have a Garmin 250W which we (not always affectionally) call our 'psycho nav-girl' due to her interesting navigation choices.

If we're away in an unfamiliar city it seems to work fine (but we wouldn't know any better), gets us to where we want to go but around home when I've tried it, she makes very odd suggestions, some time obviously out of the way which makes me suspicious.

I've selected fastest route and only avoiding U-turns in preferences.

Anybody had similar experiences or any suggestions.

I do like the trip section which gives average speed overall including stops. I find we need to average at least 75km/h to get long distance in a reasonable time and I can limit McDonnalds stops by pointing this out.

I have the Nuvi 310 and it does the same thing, in general it will get you where you want to go but it doesnt know any short cuts which pisses you off after a while.

So in answer to your question yes, it does do it alot.
