Static......????

Postby Jake.h71 » Wed Aug 19, 2015 4:27 pm

Hey guys
I've recently installed a 2010 navi headunit in my 04 gt premium, after researching long and hard I have made an adapter to go from the headunit to the standard power loom and amp din plug. All functions work perfectly fine but with one issue, when the ignition is first turned on there is a bucket load of static but it goes away once the car is started, the ignition can be turned back to acc and still no static but as soon as the key is removed from the ignition and put back onto acc the static is back. My electrical skills aren't the best so I am unsure what it could be, I know a bad earth or even loom configuration and routing could cause it but am unsure. Has anyone experienced such issues?
Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Jake

Maybe use a timer relay in delay mode to power the Nav and or screen...

From installing an afr gauge, there's and advisory to not use one particular cabin fuse as it has some sort of delay or glitch on key-on. Maybe that's an issue or solution.

Also it could be related to the Nav unit needing time to boot, as opposed to the display, which would come on immediately.
Thus, I'd look for a trigger wire output from the Nav unit, and a similar input on the screen harness, or use the Nav trigger to activate a relay that powers the screen :)

Sounds like an impressive project, looking forward a full writeup with your sources, pics & procedure...

I was sorta thinking along those lines haha I came to the conclusion that there is residual power or signal being fed back coming from possibly a module or something similar which is why there is only static prior to first start up

My bet is it's because no signal to the screen...
So either find/connect the trigger or use a delay relay.
Do you still get the safety announcement?

So is the issue audio related or video related.
Are you hearing white noise, or seeing it on the nav screen?
Can you make a phone video of the issue from beginning to end and post it to YouTube or eg post a Dropbox or wetransfer link etc?

Video works perfectly fine it's purely a buzzing soung that only gets louder as volume is increased, it's not motor noise as it doesn't increase with rpm while running

Just a thought and I'm not sure how factual any of this is lol but could the high level signal from the HU to the amp be causing the buzzing?
I don't believe these HU run with an amp as there is only a standard 14 pin rear socket in terms of power and speakers

Had a bit of a break through!
I have the luxury of having another lib in the back yard without the mcintosh system,
Finally got time to remove the headunit in that and hooked the kenwood unit up to that without a problem so I believe my issue is in either the wiring or the amp. Being the amp is a bit of a relief as I would have to change the amp in order to power the sub!
