07 Stereo Change Question

Postby Jimmyboyjr4 » Tue Aug 04, 2015 6:23 pm

Just a quick one, wasn't able to find the answer any where.

Anyone know what these wires are for?

All models have a fairly common wiring loom (give or take some leads, particularly the 8-speaker vs 6-speaker models). Some of those leads will not be connected for your model and will simply be lying there doing nothing.

If you don't have electric seats, for example, you will find that there's an electrical cable under both front seats that are not plugged into anything as they normally run the electric seats and if we had them in AU, the heater elements in the seats.

Now that all said, not sure about the top pic, but the lower black one looks like the ground lead for the stereo and the white one may be your aircon control panel connector or info panel connector.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

They were all connect to the head unit itself and not the HVAC control. My guess is aerial and tweeters but not 100% sure. Trying to figure out before I put it back together. I have noticed the unnecessary wiring around the car though haha

Top one is the antenna. Don't think it goes into the HU like that though. Did it have another adaptor?
One of the two little ones is the hazard light, get the feeling it was the white one.
Maybe the small black one goes to an earth pin on the HU

What are all the model numbers on the factory HU that you removed?

In the lower picture, the smaller white plug (8 pin positions, with only 3 slots populated) is for audio steering wheel controls (2 wires), and a signal related to illumination dimming.

The black plug with one wire is for chassis ground.

I agree with andy_mac -- top pic appears to be AM/FM antenna connector (with dual coax cables for FM diversity -- dual antennas), but looks like one of the intermediate connectors that Subaru uses (at various points in the car between the HU and antenna). Maybe it's just an odd angle. Can you post some more pictures of different sides/views?

Does your steering wheel have audio controls? Or does it have a blank panel where they would go (and cruise controls on the right side panel)?
