I have some instruction for that here.

Can this be done on a nexus 7 2012 model??? Or is it only for 2013?

Should work on both. I think the shutdown sequence is reliant on the Timur's kernel. You can still download a ROM with this if you have bit of a hunt on google. I had a copy somewhere but it only runs Cyanogenmod 10.1
EDIT: Links to download here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/343017-download-location-for-usbrom/?hl=%2Busbrom#entry1974113

Thanks McDoof.
My mate is giving me his tablet, and has already done the hard work of installing the 2012 rom for me (and taken the fun out of it hahaha).

I've just gotta get hold of the:
OTG Y cable,
a dc-dc power supply,
a USB hub
and figure out a reversing camera system (lower priority)
and find time to throw it all together
then facia - i'm gonna do a rough install with a windscreen tablet mount and do the facia last,

It will work for 2012 as well - they all run the same OS - the difference is only the physical hardware.

Struggling to find a real EZcap STK1160 based video grabber. Any ideas where I can get one that will work?

It's pot-luck, really. Have bought three from eBay so far and all three were different chipsets, but none were the STK1160.

Giving serious consideration to spending the extra money for a FEBON 100 instead since I know that works and its readily available.

Even that seems hard to come by
EDIT: I see you can just email the guy that makes them. US$77 is pretty steep though. Will have to think about it.

Yeah you just email him directly. I've bought a couple of things from him already and they work really well - he's very good and delivers fast, but yeah - the price puts you off a little. You could justify the cost with the notion that you're paying for quality, something that "just works", etc.

But for such a basic function as reversing, even I've baulked at the idea of spending that money when our dollar is so crap right now, but I've already wasted nearly $30 buying the other EZCap devices that don't work, so it's much of a muchness.

As long as the filename and path is correct (and all in lowercase) and that the Owner, Group and Other permissions have at least Read permission, Timur's ROM should pick up on it and play it when power is disconnected.

So I asked on the Timurs Reddit site for help finding a working Ezcap device and have been pointed to this one. Apparent confirmed working. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Factory-price-EasyCAP-USB2-0-Video-Adapter-with-Audio-1channel-and-2-chips-STK1160-GM7113-High/1760001577.html

What usb hub are you going to run Hyrax?
I assume the hub is necessary to run the usb power and reverse camera at the same time.
