2007 2.0R Audio Installation

Postby KIERANX91 » Sun Apr 26, 2015 1:29 pm

Hey Guys,

Brand new to the thread and just had some questions after reading through a number of posts.

I currently have the GX204-KH stock head unit in the liberty and am wondering if it is possible to get a new head unit installed without too many troubles.

I went and spoke to a few people about it and they said that it is real expensive to be done but you guys probably have more knowledge then them on the topic.

Is it as simple as ordering a new fascia kit from jdmparts as well as purchasing a double din head unit and having it installed? Or am I missing something important?

Down the track I would love to upgrade the speakers, amp and have a sub put in but my main focus is the head unit first.

Like I said I'm a complete beginner when it comes to this stuff so any advice would be awesome!

Yeahp thats pretty much it!

Subarus of this generation come with what you could call an integrated aircon and headunit.. not that they are integrated.. just the bit of plastic that you see is..

Anyway so yes you need to fascia kit and either a double DIN or single din plus like a filler/ shelf.. But why would you not go double DIN!
It gets expensive because 1. double DIN headunits are more expensive and the fascia kit is also not cheap as it usually comes with the aircon module attached. Some one may have found one that doesnt have the aircon but i cannot confirm this.

Theres no real other way around this problem as far as i have seen, not a clean one anyway. I would also suggest a wiring harness from SUBARU -> Generic and Generic-> HEADUNIT brand (eg pioneer) this will set you back ~$40 but is alot cleaner and easier than soldering. Plus professional installers seem to be more and more prevalent in just twisting and taping wires together. which isnt ideal.

Yeah, just get the JDM fascia kit. It's pretty annoying they charge you for another air con control kit, since the original you take out of your dash can be installed in the new fascia. (Well this is true for the MacIntosh head unit, anyway).

The installation of the head unit should be easy for a 2.0R, no factory MacIntosh amp to mess about with.
