What are you hoping to gain from this process?
Mcintosh system or kenwood?

If you are after connectivity the better option would be an anycar module, or similar branded item. They are hidden away and work through the cd changer port in the back of the stock headunit
Gives you Bluetooth, aux, usb and more.

I'm also planning to reinstall two subs and amps that I have from a previous car, so I need another head unit so I can tune for the subs

Have you considered using a rca converter fed off the existing HU. Would be way cleaner and easier to setup. Used to have my rockford sub done that way and it ran perfectly.

Does yours have the mcintosh setup currently?

Yeah it does. I just don't see the point of spending the extra money on the converter and the any car module when I already have the rest waiting to go in

Yea fair enough.
Not a clue how to get how to get a 2nd headunit to work in conjunction with the stock one so i'll leave that to one of the audio guru's to nut out.
