I'd like audio controls on my steering wheel..

What the Hell were Subaru thinking putting 2 sets of tiptronic gear changes +/- on the left and right of the 04 steering wheel..
"hey the steering wheel is kinda empty on one side.. any ideas on what we put on the other side?.. I KNOW! lets do 2 sets.. SUBARU AWD symmetry.."

Same here, I'd happily drop one of the gear change buttons for audio control in my 04. I can only guess they were going out of their way in a bid to differentiate the performance model (the turbo that is) from the non performance models (all others).

Check out the 'interior' pic on the 3.0R Outback on the Subaru site...

Looks like the same HU externally, but steering wheel includes audio buttons.

Interesting...

Hi EJ25
I ordered the part from my local subaru dealer, it was delivered the next day. The part is a complete replacement for the current cruise control panel and stereo controls for lefthand side blank panel with both harnesses coming into one plug that fits perfectly into the steering wheel. You will have to take the steering wheel off to perform the change over. Everything fits into the factory mounts behind the horn cover.

Yes Ric it has taken a while to make my first post, but there will be more cool stuff to come.

I'd be interested to know if I could convert my MY06 (3RB) wheel to the MY07/8 wheel with the audio controls on the left and cruise on the right side of the wheel.

Will this just be a case of ordering the left and right buttons and surrounds for the wheel, taking the cruise stalk off the column, installing the new buttons and surrounds, plugging things back in and enjoying?

Hi all, Just joined.

I've just ordered a 5sp 2.5i special edition.
I called the dealer to ask about getting the steering wheel controls for the Stereo and was told by the girl (sorry for the sexist overtone) that it can't be done.

Am I to believe that she doesn't know what she's talking about?
Is the wiring (that green 5 pin connector) just sitting there inside the steering wheel waiting to be plugged in?
