Aftermarket H/U w/ Audio Controls ***HELP!!!!***

Postby rambaldi » Wed Jan 21, 2015 1:14 pm

Hi guys,

Yesterday I had an Alpine ILX-007 head unit installed in my '06 Liberty, and while everything is working perfectly the steering wheel controls don't work. The car audio place tried two modules but said they couldn't get them to work.

Do you guys have any suggestions, or have you run into this problem before? I need to get them working ASAP as the touch controls for volume on the front of the unit are horrible.

Hi mate,

That thread recommends the PAC SWI-RC which is one of the units the guy tried but said didn't work. Upon checking the official PAC website though it says it should work. So was this auto electrician wrong?

I would say yes as the pac swi-rc works perfectly in my 2006 specb. I'm running a pioneer head unit though.

If you in melbourne, contact michael (mihai) on this forum as he is the one who installed and programmed it for me.

I also have a PAC SWI-RC mated to an Alpine ine-s920ei. Works perfectly. The installer did note however that the firmware or version of the swi unit may matter with newer head units - old swi boxes may not play nicely.

Where are you located mate?

The PAC SWI-RC does require some programming. Also, it is possible that the steering wheel control option from the headunit is turned off in the settings.

Thanks for your help guys, I'm still trying to figure this out and feel like I'm at a dead end. I'm about two hours south of Sydney. The unit I bought is an Alpine ILX-007 which is a fairly new headunit. What options do I have?

The pioneer unit Michael installed for me is fairly knew too, he needed to switch the radio off, go into the settings of the radio and turn "on" the steering wheel control function, as from factory it's set to "off". Alpine could have similar factory setup.

Was the pac connected to the correct factory wires and is it the latest version 1.4.5.

No harm in asking the questions to your installer.

I'll run it by them tomorrow and see what answers I can find.
