Hey guys!

My McIntosh subwoofer has blown on my 2005 3.0r sedan, and I'm looking to buy a replacement sub

Currently I'm thinking of getting a JBL GTO804 8 inch sub

A few questions:
1. Is that sub the best one I can get for around the $100 price range?
2. Will it fit in the existing sub mount?
3. Will I need to get a spacer to fit it? and if so, where do I get one from?

Hi Jon,

I have always liked JBL's ,lot of Subi owners put in Polk db840 - similar specs and price but mounting depth is a bit less (see comparison ) http://www.crutchfield.com/compare_107DB840D_109GTO804/Polk-Audio-db840DVC-vs-JBL-GTO804.html
You will need to put in a spacer for both of those.

I'm a bit suspicious of the JBL's sensitivity given at 91db @ at 2.83 watts and not at 1w (which is standard).

I bought a 8' replacement which was a bit closer matched to the original speaker but did not end up putting it in as my sub just had a loose dust cap so I just glued it back in place and it has been working ok ever since.
Kicker have a good replacement as well plus they do a shallow mount one.
A bit of work required to get to the speaker , but with care and patience it is easy enough.

Oh wow the Polk seems to be rated quite highly too! How to decide
which one would you personally put in??
And in regards to the sensitivity differences, what does that exactly mean? I dont know a lot about speakers/sound technicalities

Haha loose dust cap!! Have you tried the McIntosh sub hack that some of the forum members have been talking about? Stock setup seems a bit lacking

Yeh the forum boys have posted up a fantastic step by step guide on how to install a sub. I love the guys here! I'd be so lost without everyone's support

Old thread I know but I just purchased and fitted one of these yesterday as my factory Sub blew. From what I can see a great bolt in replacement sub with really good specs for a 8" running on the factory amp. The factory sub is 30w RMS and this one is 150w RMS. The audio shop said this would perform better than the Polk, Focal etc with the stock amp as they need more powa .

Interesting, I wonder if the Polk would end up being better if you were using an aftermarket 5 channel.

After having this sub for a few weeks now, very happy with it. Some pics below.
