**Radio signal static when I press the brake?**

Postby damien.kal » Thu Oct 30, 2014 12:51 pm

Hey so I've started noticing radio static coming through when my foot is on the brake. Very apparent on occasion increasing with volume and immediately turns off when my foot is off the brake. No apparent static when my parkers are on, and also ONLY there when I'm on my radio, CD audio quality is not affected.

Car details for reference:
Facelift Spec B 3.0R with the full mcintosh system.
ALSO rear lights have LED's in them (possibly this is what's causing it?)

Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Thanks

have any of the wires been touched?
Is it consistently when braking or every so often depending on how hard you brake?
Could just be a dodgy connection, played on by the physical force of slowing down. I used to get static around hard corners after a botched speaker install on my old car.

The rear brake lights were replaced with the LED's a few weeks ago so wires were moved around a little but nothing too excessive. Just had to take the bulb out and replace it with the LED. I only started noticing the noises after I put the LEDs in but I didn't have the car too long before I did it, so not 100% sure if it was still there before the install. And it happens intermittently but not dependent on braking force etc I could be in neutral and not moving and press the brake pedal and it'll come through. Only thing that changes its severity is the volume knob. May possibly be the wires in the tail lights? Maybe Earthing?

hmm yeah check the earthing, its usually the main problem. If its associated with the brake lights it could be when power is sent to the lights affecting a connection

Put standard bulbs back in and see what happens. Good chance the LED's are causing it

UPDATE:
Put the bulbs back in and they work fine. Any idea on solutions to running the LEDs? I was thinking about adding extra earthing wires off the bulbs to see if that'll fix it?

I've gone back to the stock bulbs as well , had to replace my HU because AM reception stopped working , not sure If it was the led break lights but not taking any chances also sick of the static LEDs were causing
