Help with install Willing to learn

Postby THERB3 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 7:22 pm

Just wondering if anyone has had this unit and what would you pay for it, for a used model.
I could obtain one very cheap. Am I wasting my time with this or save a little more.

Did you end up buying it?

I'd be interested to hear your feedback, especially the app radio side and even more so the interface with dash command, if you use it, that is.

from what little I have read the only difference between the 2 is an SD slot and the 8550BT supports an android app radio mode.

Hi guys,

I need help with my install and I am keen to learn. I am willing to pay someone to show me and help me with the install.
What do I need other then my unit or amp in regards to cables.
I am not changing any speakers for the meantime. It's only the headunit and amp.
Do I have any takers and I can come to you, the reason behind this, is I want to learn installing my headunits.
Also I am trying to learn to bypass the handbrake issue that disables the unit to play movies. Call me a dare devil LOL

Let me know if anyone is keen

The handbrake one is easily done. Run the core responsible for it direct to earth/chassis instead of to the handbrake light.

A good idea to reach out. Haven't got any mates that work in install bays or anything at JB hifi?

I'm an electrician myself but learnt a lot about car stereo when I was building up cars years ago form a mate that did it professionally, i'd work on his car, he'd install my in car gadgets.

So you are replacing the stock 6cd mac and it's amp under the seat?

I have never done it, I'm planning a sub amp and sub install.

Get a amp wiring kit from car audio shop or eBay, 4 or 8 awg should be fine.
These come with fuse power neg etc. Around $50

I'd imagine you'll need a clarion type harness adaptor thing to get power etc into the new HU.

And the speaker wire adaptors might be required as the stockers might have dedicated plugs on the end?

Are you running a seperate sub amp?

Hey Ben,

No wanting only the one amp to fire speakers and sub for the time being.

So all I want is to install HU and amp of needed.
I need to know what wires, harnesses, fuses and RCA's to get this project going.

Thanks.
