Header unit replacement

Postby Adenc22 » Thu Jul 17, 2014 8:46 am

My current stock header unit is destroyed, the whole CD unit is broken and drains my battery. I've been quoted $600 for the repairs which is more than twice the price of a full second hand unit I found at the wreckers that comes with a three months warranty.

Not sure if anyone has done this but is it possible to buy a Mc Intosh header unit and put it in instead of the standard unit?

Thanks

You'll need to add an amp for sure. Working wouldn't be plug and play. But should be possible. Would be a good time for an upgrade

The stock McIntosh head unit isn't amplified, meaning that if you have the standard Kenwood system it's gonna be more effort than what it's worth. Find a Kenwood head unit and replace like for like if you're not fussed on upgrading. Otherwise look at aftermarket options.
