do i need a dual layer disc to burn this onto ? (or is regular dvd+r ok)

2009 Tribeca

Not a stupid question at all. It needs a dual-layer disc.

By v1, do u mean the disc that the car came with? Usually that's v12 or v14 (it was v14 for my 08 MY09). If your battery was disconnected, you need the original disc to insert 1st, because it contains the software it needs. The map update discs can be inserted afterwards, and the original disc isn't needed again until a battery disconnect.

Do you still have the original disc that your car came with? They're not available anymore as far as I know, since they're so old. And have to be subaru specific I think, for our cars (whereas Map discs are interchangeable between eg Toyota and Subaru).

Would be very strange for the Map CD to cause engine start issues lol. I believe what you're saying, but there's really no way the 2 are related.
Maybe you had partially flattened the battery, and after turning some accessories off and letting the car sit for a bit, it just had enough juice to start the engine.

How do you know your battery is not dead? It may have enough power to run lights & accessories, but not enough cold cranking-amps to turn the engine over (especially on cold mornings/nights).

The one thing I discovered once is some sort of battery drain prevention mode. I was playing with the Nav screen for half an hour to set it all up, and everything on the car went dead. I thought I had flattened the battery (car wouldn't start - even after turning ignition off & on). But battery voltage was fine, and after locking/unlocking the car, everything was normal again.

The little window on the top of the battery? That's usually a water/acid level indicator. It's green as long as it has enough fluid, even if totally flat. Yours may not be that, but that's what most are.

After further research, it looks like the 'Inbuilt Hydrometer' window can be either a dual colour ring, or single (like mine). Either Charge and Fluid Level independently, or just one. Anyway, who cares - whatever your battery's label says (and it's obviously good if it's green). Sorry for the confusion, I've just always had single ring colour indicators....
