Gen 4 Mcintosh Lib GT Stock Speaker Questions

Postby Glexen » Sun Jun 01, 2014 11:49 pm

Was just wondering as i will be upgrading to a double din setup (already purchased kit)

Ill be getting the ALPINE PDX-V9 5 Ch for the amp

Was hoping to keep the stock speakers (Minus the center speaker obviously)

Has anyone done this before, and do you know what the Ohm's of all the speaker on the door add up too in the front
as there is 4 speakers per side in the front, do they add up to 4ohm or 2ohms or are they just not a standard
resistance that i could just hook up to the alpine amp.

Or could someone give me some advice on going about this? :)

Clarence (tangcla) had a PDX5 in his car prefacelift GT. Worked great!

In terms of the stability of the amp, it is stable to impedances as low as 2ohm. This means that any impedance higher will work fine with that amp, whether it be 4ohm, 8ohm or more it doesn't matter, the amp will still work fine. The only thing is that at 2 or 4 ohm it pumps out 100W RMS per channel. If the impedance is higher (8ohm or more) it will still output power but most likely not 100W RMS.

If you want to find out the impedance of the front speakers combined, at the McIntosh amp, unplug the connector and put a multimeter across the front left or front right pair or wires.
