Macintosh sat nav screen options and amplifier upgrade?

Postby sssyco » Wed Apr 23, 2014 9:04 pm

Two things I have been thinking about lately:

1. Is it possible to get something other than the map or radio channel display to show on the screen when listening to the radio (for example photos or some sort of screen saver that is not so boring?

2. Is there much point in upgrading the stock amp on a gen v gt? I have a old 4 ch and 2 ch amp I was going to sell unless it's useful in my new car for something, not looking at changing any speakers besides maybe replacing the 8 inch sub with a more powerful direct fit (if one exists?)

the Gen 4 sat nav has sd video in, I use that to display torque app hosted on an android phone, specifically a Samsung SGS i9000 rooted with cyanogen mod.

the virtual gauges are great.

in future I may use a Joycon to command the i9000 from the steering wheel controls.

the addition of a video switch could allow more video sources, eg a front camera, dvd, etc...

as for the amp, it would depend on the level of integration between the stock HU and the stock Amp.

the easiest application would be as a bridged sub amp using hi-low converter as input from the stock sub wires.

That sounds awesome, I noticed there is a am RCA video in plug in the centre console, is that what your talking about when you say SD video or is there some kind of input behind the head unit itself? Also does it allow you to listen to the radio while having the gauges displayed on the screen? Where does your phone get the input for the gauges? Do you need to buy some kind of Bluetooth sensors?
