Does the factory setup use a standard coaxisl plug for the aerial, or is an adapter of some kind required?

I noticed that some versions of the Mac have the standard antenna plug.

However I just realised that after reviewing a few threads the JDM 2 din fascia kit, apparently has the necessary adapters, if needed included.

I have this kit still in the box and checked the contents and sure enough, the adapters were included. :D

I found my notes for the pinouts for the main harness that supplies power to the head unit.

The connector is a white plastic 14 pin rectangular connector.

1 - Illumination 12v (purple/grey)

3 - Steering wheel controls + (purple/white)

6 - Memory Power 12v (blue/red)

9 - Steering wheel controls - (orange/white)
10 - Accessories 12v (yellow red)

Thanks for that. Tomorrow I'm going to run the accessory 12v through a phone mute relay. Hopefully that's enough to power down the HU.

Hey tssfka, how did the install end up going? I purchased a Spec.B recently. I quite like the sound of the oem speakers and amp. I'm just going to purchase the JDM DZ fascia and maybe purchase a pre-made harness or make it. I've salvaged my old Autobarn harness from the Gen 3 Liberty which helped with connecting the Alpine 9857 with the factory plugs.

I hope all but the audio wires are correct and if I have to I'll make a Line Out plug from the Alpine hu to the Din.

Please get new speakers, I got Polk MM6501 and have not looked back. DB6501 also good. Hell, anything is better than those paper crusted weather torn McIntosh speakers. Open up your door cards and I guaranteed they will crumble at first touch.

haha, interestingly that kind of happened to my Gen 3 RX, after a few slams of the door (passenger side), the speaker started to sound weird. It was the foam surround which karked it. It tore away like bread when you pinched it.

Ok so I should have added these pics before.

Before and after photos of my single DIN fascia mod. The end one is a little rough because I never got around to making the silver trim fit snug enough and the matt vinyl covering on the fascia is getting a little old but you'll get the picture...

Thanks for the pics. So is the plastic faceis removable on the Mc HU/HVAC? and you simply chopped off the temp section of the after market fascia and cut off the top (hu) half of the plastic off on the Mc and combined the two and vinyl-ed the whole lot?

Not sure if I can press the Buy It now price of $436 for the JDM fascia.

While the +12V Battery lead does maintain the radio's memories (e.g., radio station presets), it's also used as the main power supply (higher current). The +12V Accessory lead is just used to signal the radio when you've turned the ignition key to "ACC" or "ON".

Pin 2 is the signal that will return the factory radio's illumination to daytime brightness even when your headlights are on. No aftermarket HU can use this, but it's possible to whip up your own circuit to use this in conjunction with the illumination(+) signal to accomplish the same function.

Pin 14 provides +12V power to the car's FM antenna booster amplifier (or the control signal for a motorized antenna, in older models). Subaru's antenna boosters don't perform well with anything below 12V, so you should use a voltmeter to check what your aftermarket HU does. If it's less than 12V, connect this lead to the RED +12V Acc. lead instead (on your aftermarket wire harness).

Hi guys - sorry for the grave dig. The info in this thread has been super helpful - thank you.

I've got a question regarding the 20-pin pigtail connector and getting it connected to the pre-amp outputs of my Kenwood HU (DDX9018DABS). I haven't done this kind of stuff before so I'm a bit stuck - I'm not sure what wires to run to each pre-amp output on the headunit (outputs are below):

A couple of questions:
  • Would I run pins 17 & 18 from the pigtail to an RCA and then to the Front Left premap output?
  • How should I run pins 2 & 3 (subwoofer) to the preamp outputs on the HU?
