Hey guys,

Just about to start the process of the double din + info panel relocate + tablet install.
I'm also wanting to replace the mcintosh amp and upgrade the factory sub.

I've been looking everywhere online for a custom sub box to suit the 04-09 wagons.
I've seen some good tutorials on the forum on how to DIY, but I'm currently living 6 hours away from any spotlight or place with decent power tools, so pretty much have no hope of doing this myself.

Would anyone be interested in making up a custom box for 10" subs in the wagon's? perhaps there is enough interest for a few of us to put our names down, pay a deposit each and buy a whole heap from someone?
Happy to pay $$$ for a quality custom product!

What do you think?

Where are these write ups?? I'm thinking of doing a custom mdf box. Would love to do fiberglass but I'm too scared I'll screw my interior...

I am interested in making you a sub enclosure.
Could only make one for the Right side of the boot (Looking from back of car)
What side is the factory subwoofer on?

If I can make this with a jigsaw and some glass I reckon most people could as well with a little patience.

You can still get these as well. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13694188/J ... tml?tp=113

I'm removing the trim to do it though. I want to fit a 12" in there :) I've seen some good ways to do it though :) your post got me thinking :)

I saw your write up on your Sub enclosure Richard and that's where I thought, I need one exactly like that!!!
Just thought it would be worth someone's time making and selling a whole bunch at the same time.

Do you reckon that there at least 10 wagon owners who are just simply going deaf from the HUGE amount of ear bleeding Bass that the 8" macintosh sub produces and are looking to remove it?!

I think you will be hard pressed finding a 12" sub that will work in that size enclosure.
For SQ the 10" is perfect. If your after SPL and a 12" you will need a box 3 times the size.

I was going to remove the entire rear quarter trim. From my calculations that would get me a 50-60L box. I then had a last minute change of heart when comparing 10" and 12" Alpine type-R's They're very similar apart from Vas so I went the 10" so I don't have to remove the trim...

Now I'm just trying to find a way to secure it so it's still easily removable but will take the corners

What's a good 10" sub + amp combo for a custom made box like these and how many watts would you recommend?
I might start buying bits and pieces every few weeks for a massive audio install day....
Which hopefully doesn't end up as an install week!

Have a look at the Peerless XXLS. Good value and as good if not better than my Morel Ultimo SC10 at half the price. Works in 60l box.

Lots of good amps around. Whats your budget?
What fronts do you have or what are you going to use and what are you going to power them? Same amp (5 Channel) or 2 separate amps?

Were really good here at spending other peoples money but unless its installed properly it will never sound as good as it could. Installation is everything.

Richard.

I was initially looking at a 5 channel amp, but to get a decent one with a good amount of power to the sub seems like it would be a fair bit of $$$.
I don't know how many watts the macintosh amp puts out (RMS) to each channel, but I was considering just powering the factory speakers off of a double DIN head unit.
Was just going to have a single amp for the sub.

I don't recall reading anyone running factory macintosh speakers from a head unit, so perhaps I'd be missing out on some decent sounds without an amp for them.

I guess my budget for a decent amp is around $400

In order of price that will suit your budget.
You will need to power front speakers so 5 channel

This little 8" sub will go straight in and you have a sub and 5 channel for $400.00

That's got some good gear on it that site!

http://www.elite-electronics.com.au/In- ... jcEOqYazCQ look alright too, apart from being sold out.

I'm happy to upgrade to 10" sub providing that that it would be powerful enough with 250watts from the 5 channel amp and can fit in a custom enclosure.

Speaking of which:

Yeah factory is right hand side.

What sort of pricing would you be looking at for a fibreglass+mdf+black carpet job?

Just material cost for now...
Probably no more than $70

My Wagon came stock without the macintosh subwoofer -
Instead it has a cubby like on the left-hand side...
Would you be able to get a photo without the cover over the speaker,
and possibly with the speaker removed?

Within Richards write up, there's a pic of the rear right of the boot of the wagon with the macintosh sub, frame and panel removed.
I don't know if anyone can verify, but I suspect that all wagons with the paneling and or sub removed behind the rear right wheel arch would look the same.

I'll attempt to get a photo of what the factory macintosh sub + panels looks like tomorrow.

Richard's setup took 25 hours to build, so I'm happy to pay for your efforts, what ever you think is reasonable.

I know that the postage to 4895 Queensland may be on the $$$ side, but happy to pay for this too for a quality custom sub box.
