Yes but what sounds "good" ( the McIntosh sound shit) might not sound good to you.

Don't compensate for a crappy sound system by turning up the bass.
If you need more/better bass, get better speakers/amp/sound deadening etc.

It always seems when you get into a hire car or someone else's car that the bass has been turned right up to get some sick beats and it sounds way worse than my arse.

It's personal preference really. Different people prefer different sound.
Also, different music is recorded differently. I have some cds that are very bassy and others are much more trebley, some sound better with a natural sound and others with a bit of a bost in some areas.

Usually in a factory stereo find I have to up the treble a reasonable amount and go easy on the bass.

Just play with it and see what you prefer.

Best car ever made. 665cc two cylinder fkn powerhouse. Classed as a van so it's a mad commercial vehicle, it's just smaller than hatchbacks of the era.

Mid: 0
High: -2.
Wow effect: off.

Agreed with the above, everybodys preferences are different and depends on what you're listening to.

07 Macintosh unit (IMO they're sound good - just needed punchier bass which was fixed with an additional sub)

Bass: -3 (that's right, negative 3 - all the bass gets punched through the sub)
Mid: 2
Treble: 5
Fader and balance: 0

Aftermarket 1600W 12" sub running at about 20-40% depending on music type.

Try moving the balance slightly to the left and the balance all the way forward if you haven't already. Bring the image of the music more towards your ears, works better with actual time alignment but it helps.

Thanks Phil, ill play around with the fader and balance.

I've got the original Mac headunit, amp and speakers but the original 8" sub was removed. The additional 1600W Vibe sub and amp run at around 20 to 40% gain - depending on music genre, recording quality, etc.

Move the balance slightly to the left
Fade all the way forward.

Bass 0
Treble 0
Fader all the way to the FRONT!!!
EVERYTHING else is tuned using BitOne
