Has anyone approached any fibreglassing companies about doing their fibreglassing if you didn't want to spend big bucks on getting the 7" AV panel set? I'm shit at it (well I've never done it before so can only assume) and would pay a pro if it was reasonably priced.

I would also consider doing this is the price was reasonable.

For the amount of hours it would take for a reasonable finish, if you had to pay someone to do it, I doubt it would come in much cheaper than the ~$300 delivered for the AV panel.

I doubt you'd get it done cheaper than just buying the OEM one.

I've got a plan sorted out for mine now.

-I'll simply be using a stock Galaxy Tab2 7" wifi only version, may install a different launcher one day.
-Audio out via 3.5mm stereo plug into the Axxess> McIntosh adapter already in my car
-32gb microSD card with all my music on it
-USB power adaptor connected to ACC at cig lighter socket
-Screen set to never sleep while charging
-Screen wakes up as soon as charging begins (keys on)

simple and easy.

- How you go with power management. Will your charge rate be enough to overcome the overnight discharge? If only setting screen on / off via Settings menu, your overnight discharge will be significant. If using a filthy solution like Tasker to manage your settings / radios, will you achieve deep sleep state to minimise overnight drain? If using tasker, will low amperage conditions during cranking send your Tasker profiles crazy?
- What will your audio quality be like over 3.5mm? (I'd consider a ground loop isolator)

-My 10.1" tab sits in standby for over a week without needing to charge.
-Audio over 3.5mm from compressed MP3/4/ AAC is sufficient for sh!tty OEM paper cone speakers..
-I don't have any current ground loop issues with my ipod over 3.5mm
-during cranking the ACC drops to ground so it stops charging for a second. that's no problem for other items in the car (phone, ipod, etc)
-if power becomes an issue, I'll crack the case on the tab, and run and external power button or a combination of that and IGN or permanent power wiring

Haven't heard about this Axxess adapter. Does this one connect via CD changer port, or is it a FM direct input unit? Also what model McIntosh radio do you have?

Nice thanks. Been trying a GROM unit, but it's just not working right with the HU controls, thinking about sending back and just getting a regular AUX in. Don't suppose you have a pic of your stereo? Just trying to determine whether it's same model or different.

My old man picked up a Samsung Galaxy 7 tablet for $150 at Bing lee the other day.They also had the Nexus 7 16gb for $199.

Getting cheap.

I really want to do this mod, but simply can't justify paying as much for a piece of plastic as the Nexus 7 tablet!
The centre panel piece should be $50-80; not $250+ incl postage!

On second thought, I wonder if they'd drop the price significantly (ie. to $100? ) if we were to order 20-30 of these? I'm sure people would be more interested if the total installed cost of a Nexus 7 was under $500

Why did I think the AV panel set was $500+?? $300 is definitely reasonable.. I'm tossing up the idea of installing a tablet or installing the Pioneer navigation module to run with my Pioneer HU. The latter costing around $700 brand new.

My tablet idea is:
- Nexus 7
- Aux in to Pioneer HU (which can remain on AUX)
- iPhone bluetooth to HU still as it overrides all audio (full functionality; would probably work better than Tablet talk)
- External storage solution for movies and music (unsure how to connect to tablet)
- Screen set to dim until used (also full brightness while NAV software displaying)
- Info panel relocation kit and use existing cig lighter and loom to power tablet

Please point out and glitches or where it could be done an easier way!

I'll check with my contact at Subaru....

If you call your local subie parts slinger and you're nice to them, you'll find that it's about the same price to get the lot locally....
