I've noticed a really bad vibration from the sub even set at -4 bass. it seems better if you hold the cover down does anyone have any suggestions either for a fix or possibly a new sub hopefully under $250?

Edit: it's a Macintosh factory 8 inch

I am far from an audio expert but i'd say the sub could be cactus?

Are you sure the cover just isn't loose? Take it off completely and see if it stops. My high brake light used to vibrate on the rear window until I fixed it properly, drove me nuts!

Well I was going to take it apart tomorrow as I thought that might be the case how does it come off just a flat screwdriver?

It still works but just with a shudder like when you have something sitting on a home theater sub and you can see it move

No idea!!

I had a similar problem with my sub a few weeks ago. Turned out the rubber surround on the sub had split/cracked. Ended up removing the sub from parcel shelf and putting in an old 12" sub to the boot that I had lying around. Was simple enough to splice up the cables.

This happened to me recently.

I disconnected the sub for now, while I look for a replacement.


I would suggest looking at the sub from underneath, stick your head in the boot while you're playing music. You might see rays of sunlight coming through the tears.

I'd second this one, the surround on my Sub was stuffed when I bought the car last year. If you can't easily tell from the top, it's probably pretty obvious if you have a peek in the boot (assuming you've got a sedan... not too sure about the wagons).

I wanted to keep the standard sub so I went to the hassle of replacing the surround, which wasn't too much of a mission (I've got some pics in my profile). Otherwise the 8" Polk audio sub seems to be a popular switch as you can use the standard location.

After a bit of fiddling around I don't think it's the sub at all when I put pressure on the back shelf some of the vibrations stop so I'm thinking its some of the various plastics and such vibrating around it.

Got the same issue - sound is good so driver not blown, but vibration sound is horrible - would be interested to know if you find an easy solution.

I bought a sheet of dynamat, I'm going to try it this weekend I think the brake light is the main problem

If its the highmount brake light, dynamat will be of no use.

What you need to do is put a strip of foam between the highmount and the rear window. Thats where the rattle comes from regarding the highmount brake light.

Other than that, the parcel shelf is quite solid, its the trim that needs dynamat attached to it.

It's not the only thing moving so the mat should still help
