Does anyone know how many amps the McIntosh premium stereo in my GT SpecB pumps out because I cannot find that info anywhere?

It's not much, there's a post on here somewhere which has the specs... I'm certain of it...

I was told by my ICE installer that there are 2 amps. One is below the passenger seat & the other is somewhere behind the head unit.

I think the one behind the headunit is just a line level converter...

What about watts? They talk about the Mazda CX9 having 270 watts but it I have been unable to find anything on Subaru sites and the like as to how many watts the McIntosh is.

The McIntosh amp is either a 13 or 14 channel amp (ie separate amp per speaker element) depending on whether your Liberty has the in dash centre speaker. Each channel is only 20 watts. The device behind the head unit is an active crossover which splits the audio into 13 or 14 balanced outputs to go to the amp.

Which models have that?
My (MY06) Mac just sends five balanced signals (subwoofer, and the four normal channels) down to the amp under the seat.
That outputs five high level channels (subwoofer, and one to each door).
Any crossover networks must be passive ones inside the doors.

Dunno about the answer to your question but since you compared different manufacturers..

I've heard a 7 watts per channel amplifier that would rock your socks right off... it was really quite loud.. so watts is not really an accurate measure of anything on its own..

But how can that be better than my cousin's fully sik hektik 1000 watt Sony Xplod sub brooooo

Ric you could be right - my facts came unchecked from an installer who was trying to talk me out of wanting to upgrade the amp with a higher powered one. I use the CeNet iPod adapter and find that where a CD is loud at 33 the iPod does not reach the same volume at 37 or 38 - and at this level I start to hear the amp clipping. (I do like my music loud.)

I will dig out my workshop manual tonight and check my facts.

Would your workshop manual happen to be for the Australian- and Japanese-spec Liberty?? If so - I want a copy!

the American one I have, is useless for engine/drivetrain.

Colin, where are you?
I've seen a few reports about low iPod output, and I'd like to actually look at the signals involved with some test instruments to get to the bottom of it.

FYI: (The "DIN cord" (top right) carries all the balanced low-level signals from the head unit to the amp.)
