Install Sat Nav

Hi everyone,

Haven't got a Liberty yet but I'm looking into getting one without a sat-nav.

eg. http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/blnc/1 ... 69_20.jpeg

I've done some reading and looking around but it seems like all the websites that sell the fascia kit sell them in a black color (this one from the looks of it is a light grey) and the climate control is separate to the CD player. Is it possible to get a fascia kit in this colour skin?

Are there any places in Melbourne that will install it for me? I'm pretty hopeless with the sort of thing. And how much installation will I be looking at?

Thanks

Yes, you can get a double din kit in Silver. They are approx $440 from Japan. Garage88 in Sydney is the normally the cheapest place to get them.

As for local installers - I can't help you there. All I can say is it's a very simple job.

If you buy the Aerpro harnesses, you can simply plug and play your new headunit. The hardest bit is removing the original fascia - which in itself is very simple.

I actually did a walk through for an eBayer when they bought my old double din unit, supplied them with a fascia kit from G88 also. Happy to modify the walk through and send to you

Multiple versions available; I believe it would be (#02SC) - A/C Silver that you want. As stated above G88 can supply

Thanks for your quick replies. Having a work through would be great as I'm quite new to all this..

Just finding a perfect Liberty for myself at the moment :)

What's the difference between the black/silver version? I prefer the black to be honest, but 2004-5 models that I've looked at don't seem to have it.

All up for the fascia + this harness how much am I looking at?

Would this be suitable for my purpose?

And how 'easy' is it to connect the GPS to the navigation. I'm assuming ill need to put the Antenna somewhere..?

Thank you all.

Only difference is the colour, and the fact that if you get a black one, it won't suit your gear shift surround etc. That's all..

The harness is around $30.. As you have to buy the SUBARU plug, then the plug that suits your headunit (Pioneer, Kenwood etc)

Are you saying the car has SatNav, in between the air vents above the CD player?

No I'm comparing the stock sat nav (above the CD player) with just buying a car and buying a fascia kit and installing one into the cd player spot.

But i'm finding it difficult to find a car that isn't overpriced cause of it.

Ohh ok fair enough mate. Yeah I would not worry about the car having built in Sat Nav. I think they're over $4000 from Subaru.

Nothing beats aftermarket navigation mate.. Considering you get all the other extras with it like iPod connectivity and Bluetooth etc..

Not including the head unit:
Aerpro Subaru harness - $14.95
Double din fascia - $440 approx

Provided the head unit you buy is brand new it will come with the correct harness, if you buy second hand then you will be best off to buy a new harness to suit. Be careful when selecting the correct harness for your head unit if need be, it needs to have a parking brake ground wire (I made the mistake of jumping in and getting one and it didn't have parking brake ground or illumination wires). No distributors had the one I needed so I purchased it from http://www.eliteelectronics.com.au

The way aftermarket head units and navigation works is the navigation module plugs in to the back of the head unit, from there you connect the GPS antenna to the nav module and run it through behind the dash and up onto the top of the dash. This is all in my walk through mate, honestly it's a walk in the park!
