Hi all, I recently purchased the Alpine INA-W910R Double Din All in one head unit.
I have everything set for the installation im just a little stuck on where I should mount the GPS antenna..
The manual suggests either on the centre of the dash or mounted on the roof.
I don't like either of those options I was hoping I could keep it concealed??
My question to all of those who have gone down the path of an aftermarket nav system where did you mount the gps antenna?
I was thinking under the dash pad behind the info display? Also for convenience where would one suggest I would run the USB/ipod auxillary etc??

Any feedback would be much appreciated

G'day mate.. I had an aftermarket installation and tried numerous locations for the antenna. First position was in the dash stuck onto the steering column, worked well until the double sided tape lost it stickiness & I just had constant issues with it falling and losing the signal.

The best location for it is, in fact on the dash. From the back of the HU/nav system run the antenna wire across under the steering column and up between the a pillar and the dash. Hides the wire and looks neat with little to no evidence of the installation except for the receiver sitting on the dash.

As for the iPod cable, I have two. One goes to the cubby right above the HU, I find this area gets too hot to keep the iPod plugged in all the time - it's there for when I need to use my NAV through Advanced App mode. I also ran a second iPod cable to the glovebox which most people would do. You could run it to the centre console or even into the cup holders.

EDIT - when installing the GPS antenna make sure it is located on the dash away from the pillar, that'll ensure you get the best possible signal

If you want to receive a GPS signal, then mount it to the dash. In one of the corners.

USB/ipod run into the glove box. As the headunit will control it all, you won't need to have the ipod/usb in reach except for when getting in and out of the car.

I have a Nexus 7 tablet mounted in my dash in the place of the cubby and it has no problem getting a strong GPS signal very quickly, so i would imagine you could hide it under the dash somewhere and it would still work well.

hey mate i have the exact same HU in my car and i mounted the antenna in the passengers side behind the glove box but in the highest point...

good HU, but you cant update the maps as whoever creates the maps hasnt done them for Aus yet


but if i had my time again id do it behind the dash cluster.. and iv ran my ipod cable so it comes out into the centre console so im not constantly reaching over to get my iPhone!!

I stuck mine behind the dash cubby, underneath the dash up near where the centre speaker is, out of sight, awesome signal, hasn't failed me yet
