MY10 Liberty McIntosh Firmware upgrade

Postby scottyj11 » Sun Feb 17, 2013 7:41 pm

Hey. I have a MY10 Liberty GT premium with McIntosh audio. There are a few little bugs and quirks that I would love to have ironed out. One major flaw is that the bluetooth interface often freezes and I cannot connect to my / my wife's phones.

I noticed in the menu there is a software version in info. Can the firmware or software be upgraded?

Reviving an old thread, but I'm also interested in potential firmware updates for these units.

Even GUI updates would be nice, I had a Camry as a hire car for a work trip and it was miles better than the McIntosh unit in my car both in overall looks and ease of operation (logical layout etc)

I've been looking into this as well, and here is what I have found:

The unit is made/designed by Clarion.
EF-1380I-A is the model code for the Preamp

To get into the dealer diag menu:
Accept agreement
Turn audio off
Touch in the middle left side of the screen, then the middle right side, repeat this 3 times (6 presses all up, just keep going until the menu appears if you fuck it up)

To get into the maker diag menu:
from the dealer diag menu hold your finger on where it says diag for 5-10 seconds.

From there you can change some of the unit settings but nothing all that interesting, didn't look like you could break anything.

In Free Diag the menu items are:
Mode 6: Version of the McIN-BOX(??)
Mode 7: Outback, Sedan and aWagon are selectable
Mode 8: Parametric EQ: cloth, leather and through (??)
Mode 9: Auto LOUD: A/B are on/off

Firmware updates:

I'm yet to have a win here at all.

- Newer clarion units upgrade their firmware via a microSD card (the card is usually used for nav maps). Does this mean that you have to update it via the Nav DVD? The normal Nav DVD doesn't have anything but maps on it, and there's no part listed for a software CD like on the earlier Nav units.
- Some clarion units can be upgraded by USB, I can't get the unit to boot/show an error if I put updates for other clarion devices on a USB stick. Short of sniffing the bus and seeing it it's looking for any files I'm not sure what else I can do here.
- The update happens over the CAN bus, not sure but this seems likely to me. But I don't have any tools to even probe the unit.
- Is there any internal storage HDD or similar that we could rip and image from?

It would be odd for them not to have included a way to update the firmware without having to remove the unit from the car, otherwise a fix would have required an expensive recall. Getting a hold of a firmware update and procedure would help things along, but I'm at a loss of how to do it.

It should also be said that I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to this stuff, I've reflashed a few ECUs and made definition files but that was years ago and on a much simpler car.

In the mean time. check on what firmware version you are running in the maker diag screen and post it up here.

Interesting.. I wonder what the 'main' is though, disk is pretty self explanatory

But looking at this it doesn't look good as the McInbox Ver 3.4 has stayed the same.

Interdesting http://clubcj.net/viewtopic.php?t=5537 looks like the unit is the same as an MMCS unit, the diag listed there can be accessed from the mcintosh box.

Following with interest. My main problem with the unit we have is the limiting 3 band eq and the dreadful sounding Bluetooth. Even compared to my MY10 outback it's pretty poor.
