2 Din GPS Sat Nav Install

Postby wez » Tue Feb 19, 2008 7:30 pm

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has any
advice on a good 2din gps unit for my lib.
Ive checked out ebay but the quality of the
satnav software is somewhat crap to say the least.

I plan to put the unit in between the vents.
I chatted to a helpful guy from nextmod,
whom ill get the 2din panel & info screen relocation bracket.

I've already chucked in a pioneer 2din dvd player
(Wish I bought the AVIC model with GPS included)
in the dash looks pretty sweet, will be better
when I have 2 screens tho ;)

Wez, I posted the following over on legacygt.com:

I'd appreciate any comments for the following around screen placement options. I'm looking to put a carputer into a MY07 liberty that doesn't have factory sat nav and it would be great to hear some feedback on screen placement options. Having read this thread pretty full on and looking at mp3car.com at length along with all sorts of other searches, I reckon I got two options;
1) Go with a 1 DIN kit based on this kit http://www.rallitek.com/jdm1dcefa.html
2) Go with the full 2 DIN kit based on http://www.rallitek.com/dodincopa.html

Option 1), I would go with a Xenarc 700IDT and with option 2) a generic 7" in dash VGA touchscreen (undecided)

As I figure it there are pros and cons each way. Option 2) could provide a more factory type finish whereas option 1) has some appeal based on security withthe ability to fold it away; out of sight, out of mind...as well as not needing to try and relocate the cubby info display.

Appreciate any feedback from anyone who has experience with either, or any other advice.

I'd be interested in how you got on or any other comments on my questions above.

First up welcome to our forum boys, wez looks like you have been lurking around in the shadows for some time.

Burger: Just a hint mate, don't Hi-Jack some one else's thread. :nono: You got a great subject & thread starter there, Give it ago.
I've been looking into the same, doing a bit of research over @ mp3car.com, but it seems every one is having issues with mounting there screens in the legacy's, & its not just as simple as mounting a 2DIN unit. Id love to hear more on how you go & what CPU are you thinking of using.

Cheers,

Chris

Fair point mate. Didn't intend to hi-jack, I was thinking that no-one had replied to wez, so I'd try to kick it into life! I'll re-submit under a new thread.

Cheers
